Slip away- oh wonder
• the third person•
"When she lived with us." Simon took his place at the front of the church, he was the first one to speak, the others didn't have the heart. "She took Josh and me to see her mother here once, I remember how she knew the cemetery like the back of her hand, it always stuck with me where she told us she wanted to be buried- because at that time I never thought a girl so young would be thinking about such a thing- she told us she wanted to be buried right next to the oak tree just in front of the fence because she wanted to be able to listen to the birds singing and watch the foals with their mothers." His head dipped in sadness as he told his story, did his bit. "I'm glad we could make her dream come true." He finished off, his voice depleting rightfully, he walked back slowly to the nine other men all clothed in black. The were all sat right behind Mary and her three children, who took the front row, Lindsay, staying close to Tobi for comfort.
Josh sighed and closed his eyes, looking for the energy to go up and face the crowd, a few tears depart from his glossy eyes as he made his way to the head of the church.
"I learned a lot of things about that girl, Bailey, Macy or Violet- whatever you knew her as- I learned that her favourite colour was Lilac, that she loved foxes, that she always ate her foods separate but the most important thing and the best thing I ever learned about her was this she's my sister and I fucking love her." He took a deep breath and tried to compose himself. "I will always be thankful for the years I knew her and I will never forget the change she made in my life." He stopped knowing that he couldn't talk much more. The men had agreed on who spoke, Josh and Mary being the ones to organise the ceremony. "Macy was and will always be a wonderful woman, she was kind and caring and she fought through a lot in her short life. I will always love her for everything that she was." Josh spoke with a husk in his voice, evident of the tears that had been shed since she was pronounced dead at the hospital. His sleep deprived eyes scanning over the small church of mourning beings before he stepped away from the podium and back to the pew beside Freya.
