Sarah

She almost lost herself to the dance. The mysterious masked people. The laughter. His mismatched eyes.

"How you turn my world...you precious thing..."

But she couldn't take it anymore.

"You starve and near exhaust me..."

She didn't know if it was the fear or the guilt that snapped her out of it. But whatever it was , saved her.

"Everything I've done...I've done for you..."

However even the screams and the twirling of the crumbling world  couldn't make her mind stop picturing that look on his face.

"I move the stars for no one..."

She knew deep within that it was real. Even though the world she travelled into teetered on the very edges of what was real and unreal.

"You've run so long! You've run so far!"

But what was done was done and she had to fix her mistake. Her terrible... terrible mistake.

"Your eyes can be so cruel ...just as I can be so cruel..."

It was all her fault. Everything. Everyone was paying for her selfishness.

If only she wasn't like this. If only she didn't wish ...

With a jolt Sarah sat up. It was as if she was drowning.

"Shhhhhhhhhhhh child" comforted Azure, pressing a cool hand on her forehead. Sarah laid back down, closing her eyes in an effort to stop the tears.

After her sobs faltered, Azure whispered , "Memory is a curse...but it is also a gift."

"A gift?" Sarah asked. Forgetting to ask how Azure knew about her dream.

"Yes, a gift from your past self to your present self"

"My past self was ...was so terrible" she whispered, again holding back tears. "I doubt she would wanna share anything."

"Maybe or maybe she wants you to be better" Azure said, lifting her hand from Sarah's forehead and walking to the open windows to close them.
The Goblin chamber maids had forgotten to shut them again.

The milky curtains fluttered around like restless ghosts.

Sarah missed her mother more that night than she ever did before.
