Sophie's feelings towards her best friend, Gabriel, she protects like it's her dearest treasure, in fear of someone finding them. In fear of him finding out. So she grabs her pen and writes her loveletters which he will never receive.
Dear Gabe Today you facetimed me. I have never been so happy to hear your voice in my entire life.
You looked a little different already. Your hair and face was still the same, but you looked much more tan (obviously, you live in San Diego now), and somehow more mature. But I like it. It makes you so much more handsome.
I saw how your eyes lit up when you saw me. Just like mine did too when I saw your face, even though it was through a small phone screen. You smiled so much. And you should know, you have the most beautiful smile. No wonder I fell in love with you.
You told me about how America is so far. I told you to tell me everything. You told me you've met some guys that you will start school with, and that they were very cool to hang out with. I wish I had friends like that. See, I knew you'd fit in right away. And I'm so happy for you.
You also told me you miss me.
"I miss you so much, Soph. Nothing's the same without you," you told me.
"I miss you too. Especially you're constant knocking on the wall every day," I answered with a laugh. You laughed too. That made me happy. To hear your laugh. I have been longing for that. It's the most familiar sound to me, ever. And I'll miss that.
After we hung up, I shed some tears. Some of them were happy tears. But the majority were tears I cried because I miss you way too much. So much it hurts.
I hope we can keep on talking. Because if we lose touch, I really do not know what to do.
