I nervously fiddled with the bright, green, leaf shaped cufflinks on the sleeves of my suit jacket. It was the private interviews, and to say that I was anxious was an understatement. Addalyn had just left the room to her interview, and the rest of the tributes were watching her from the screens all around the room. I let out a shaky breath as my mentor, Amelia, places her hand on my shoulder.
"Don't think too much about it, it was her plan, and one hell of a good one. It's going to be okay." She smiled at me, the stood up to get a drink. I look back to where Leya is sitting. She was wearing an off the shoulder peach dress with elbow length sleeves and jewels on her waist, and her golden-brown hair flowed down her back in waves. She looked as beautiful as ever, I just wish she would smile. I wanted to talk to her so badly, check that everything was okay, that the plan would work, but there were three tributes between us, so that was not going to happen any time soon.
We met during the training, she was really shy at first, and seemed lonely. I was the first person to approach her at the survival skills station, and we hit it off right away. Once she opened up to me, I learned that she's quite intelligent girl, and I'm so glad that I made a friend here, even if it will end up short lived.
I'm suddenly knocked out of my thoughts by two large men, grabbing my arms and pulling me towards the stage entry. Now is my time to shine. I stand in the wings and wait for my cue.
"Now, please help me welcome our next guest to the stage, Seth Gunner!" I walk on stage, waving at the audience as the applaud for me. I make my way over to Caesar and shake his hand, before sitting down.
"So, Seth, how are you liking the Capitol?" He asks. I answer carefully, my tactic is to come across as friendly as possible.
"I love it here! It's so different, but so much like hope at the same time. You wake up every morning, the dining room has food on the table, and it smells great too. You have a warm bed, and everyone is so friendly too! The only thing that is missing is my little brother Frankie" I can hear the audience aw at the mention of my brother, they love that kind of thing.
"And speaking of home, is there anyone waiting for you when you get back?" Caesar asks. Now is when Leya's plan starts to play.
"Well Caesar, it's only a small group. My mother, my father, my brother, and my axe" that earns a few chuckles from the audience.
"So, there's no lucky lady or lad wait for you?" That's the question I was waiting for.
"At home? No sadly, but there's this once girl I met recently, and I really like her too, but there's a little problem."
"And what would that be?"
"I don't think she feels the same way." The audience are starting to get excited. That's the reaction I wanted.
"Well, who is she?"
"I'm really sorry Caesar, but I know that I'm almost out of time. So, I'll just say that you'll get to talk to her soon"
The timer went off and I shook Caesar's hand, and left the stage. The gossiping audience still murmuring as the elevator door closes.
