Chapter Twelve

I woke up around noon and just laid in my bed for an hour. I love weekends. You don't have to do anything at all. You could just sit there for forty eight hours and you would be fine. No worries or stress, just relaxation. Well in the middle of my relaxation I get a text. I look over at my phone and saw Alex's name. I jolted out of my bed and picked up my phone.

"Hey wyd"

"Not much, y"

"I was thinking we should go get somethin to eat"

"Sounds good, where do you wanna go"

"I was thinking Waterway Cafe"

"Kk, meet you there."

The fastest I have ever moved in my life. I put on my clothes and sped walked to the cafe. After I got there I looked around and didn't see him. I went inside and asked if someone came in expecting a second person and the waitress said no. So I asked for a table for two and she seated me by a window.

I nervously waited and looked around the room. There was Watergate High memorabilia everywhere. It was on the walls, hanging from the roof, and on tables. I've never wanted to vomit more.

I heard someone walk in the door and got excited. Exited for no reason two, it was just an old couple. They were so cute. I wanted to grow old with someone like they did. For example Alex. Oh my god I needed to stop. I was leading myself nowhere.

The door opened again. I looked up and saw him. He looked amazing. He was wearing a grey t shirt and khaki shorts that fitted him so well. He was holding sunglasses which he had taken off when he got inside. Fuck I wanted him.

He talked to the lady at the podium and she pointed at me. I looked down like I wasn't staring at him just before. He walked over and sat down.

"Hey jack, what's up?"

"Not much as I said, I'd still be sitting at home if you didn't invite me out. What's up with you?"

"Oh you know, the usual. I just broke up with Brittany."

      YES, I HAD A CHANCE

"Really? What happened."

"Well I was at her house and she wouldn't stop nagging me about not sitting at the table, so I said I was tired of her bullshit and that we were done."

"Fair enough, well you seem relieved."

"Trust me, I am."

"Good, I'm glad you are happy."

"I wouldn't be if it wasn't for you. You have helped me realize that I don't need the popularity, I don't need the fame that comes with that dumb group."

"Who needs fame when you got me."

"Exactly."

The waitress came to take our orders and recognized that Alex was the quarterback. After she left he kind of looked at me like he was sorry in a way.

"What?"

"I just feel weird when people think I'm high and mighty for being on the football team. It's just a game."

"Don't let it get to your head, we are at a Watergate High Restaurant so I'm sure she just sees your pictures all the time."

"Yeah, I guess you're probably right."

"Sure I am."

He laughed then smiled at me.

"Thank you for everything that you've done for me, in the four days of us knowing each other"

"It has been only four days hasn't it."

"Yep."

"Crazy how time works."

"Yeah, well I really mean it. I've only known you for this little time and I feel like you're my best friend. Well actually at this point you and Kitty are probably my only friends."

I almost started crying, he grabbed my hand and looked me in the eyes.

"Thank you."

The lady came with our food and drinks. We talked and laughed for what seemed like centuries. We finished eating and walked outside.

"This was really fun, thanks for inviting me and paying."

"Thank you."

He hugged me and looked into my eyes. It looked like he was about to kiss me but pulled away. He kind of awkwardly let go of me.

" I-I'll-I'll text you later."

"Sounds good, bye."

"Bye."

We parted ways and walked home. I smiled all the way home. Maybe I actually did have a chance. Maybe he felt what I felt after that hug. Maybe he's feeling what I've been feeling this entire time. God, I hope so.
