Spencer and Winnie were ready to go home. Spencer's home being in Virginia and Winnie's home being... wherever Spencer was. Considering she had nowhere else to go. Now she couldn't just live with him that would be ridiculous. Her plan is to find a job somewhere and get her own apartment. An apartment hopefully not to far from Spencer's.
Spencer was ecstatic when he learned Winnie wasn't staying in California. Even though they haven't known each other long he loves having Winnie as a friend. Someone who can actually keep up with him mentally and who he sometimes finds himself having to keep up with her.
Eventually Winnie was able to get a job. She really enjoyed helping Spencer and his team solve their recent case and so she landed a job at the local police department as a mathematics consultant in forensic evidence. She had the degree and somewhat of the experience. Being a consultant however is only a part time job so she had gotten another part time job to help pay for her new life. A job that she found to be not as exciting but it still put her mathematical mind to use, she was a high school math tutor. The math part of that job was simple, baby math, as she called it, but she needed help with her people skills. It was a great way to learn people, the art of people (or in this case teens). It paid just as well as the police work, which was surprising, but it also somehow took more effort. She often got frustrated by the students, but it wasn't their fault. And she had no right to complain, it paid the bills.
Winnie and Spencer remained friends though they did see less of each other. Spencer always traveling and Winnie always doing something, but they still managed to make time for each other. Usually time spent with takeout food. This time being no different.
Knock knock
"It's Open!" Winnie yelled from the living room. She was just finishing up some paperwork for the police department.
"Busy?" Spencer asked, setting the Chinese food down on the coffee table. He glanced at the polkadot pot, something he did every time he visited.
"No, it's just dotting i's crossing t's, just finishing up" Winnie said setting her work aside. She plopped on the couch and opened the food. "Mmm, my favorite"
"You say that to every food i bring you." Spencer laughed
"Yeah, my favorite food is food you bring me." Winnie smiled then took a bite.
Spencer laughed. He knew it was true for him too, anything was better when Winnie was a part of it.
"So i thought we could watch the Borne series again!" Winnie said excitedly.
"Again?" Spencer smiled. Winnie gave him her best puppy dog eyes, Spencer almost immediately agreed. "Okay but i'm choosing the next movie." He said taking his seat.
"Or course!" Winnie laughed knowing that she would most likely be choosing the next movie. Spencer was nice like that.
He did it out of love, bringing hr food and movies. Being good company. Something as simple as sitting with her, even in silence, was always a pleasure for him. He hoped it was the same for her. Winnie, of course, was clueless to the whole love thing. He was her best friend, her first friend. She was new to the whole love thing so she couldn't tell the difference between love and friendship. Although the two go hand-in-hand.
Winnie and Spencer sat and watched the first movie while they ate. Then the next movie with blankets and hot cocoa. As each minute went by the two of them inched their way closer to each other. This happened every movie night. They would start the night on opposite ends of the couch then wake up the next morning cuddling in the middle of the couch.
The last movie ended and Winnie was fast asleep. Spencer found himself gazing at the pot again.
It should be there by now.
His tired eyes shifted to Winnie's dozing figure.
She's beautiful.
He couldn't help but feel love welling up in his chest. He tired to keep his breathing steady. Winnie was so close he didn't want his heartbeat to wake her. It was so loud and rapid he was sure she'd hear it, but she remained asleep.
Suddenly his phone lit up. It was on the coffee table and he could already tell it was Hotch. Slowly, he lifted Winnie and shifted her on to the couch. Spencer read the text, "Leaving for LA in 20min. Case files are in your inbox."
He sighed and grabbed his things.
"Goodnight Winnie." Spencer whispered and kissed her forehead. "I'll call you tomorrow."
As he left he took one last look at the polkadot pot. Inside the pot, unknown to Winnie, was a seed. A seed that Spencer planted. A seed that began to take root.
I hope Winnie will like it.
He walked out the apartment and smiled because he knew she would.
