Aurei glares at me as I squirm a little as she cleans my cut. Sometimes I felt like the younger sister whenever it came to cuts. Mom taught her more, since Aurei always came home with cuts and bruises, it was either her fighting those group of kids that harassed everything or her jumping the ditch where people threw bottles of alcohol, I was pissed whenever I saw her looking like that, I even told one boy off when I caught him chasing her.
But I would give a lot for everything to go back to normal...where we know that we're safe...but I doubt that anyone will help us now...
"Avery?" Aurei asks, waving her hand across my face.
"I'm fine." I reassure her, patting her head but she just glares at me.
"You shouldn't do that, I thought you were...dead." Aurei confesses, giving me the same look Mom would've gave me when she knew I was lying to her. It was a gift we all had, I could tell when my ex boyfriend was lying to his friends, he would sweat, tremble and avoid eye contact.
"You shouldn't have to worry about stuff like that." I said, facepalming myself with the other hand. Aurei lets out a defeated sigh, putting the blood stained cloth on the sink. Aurei wanted to become a nurse so Mom spent days teaching her the basics.
"It's too late for that now." Aurei said. Great. A thirteen year old is about to give me her words of wisdom...I hope that it isn't a long lecture.
"Look Aurei, I know it's hard...but you have to be strong." I said, rubbing her shoulder.
"The least we can do is try. I can't promise you anything..." Aurei said, grabbing the bandage and wrapping it around my wrist.
"Aurei, I know that. It's just some advice." I said, making a fist with my bandaged left hand. Aurei frowns, then she sits in the edge of the bathtub.
"Look Aurei, I'm sorry for what I said to you before, you understand don't you?" I ask, moving my arm a little. She gives me a dismissing wave.
"It's fine. I don't hold grudges." She said, she rolls up her sleeve to show a large, jagged scar. My eyes flicker down towards her arm, Aurei shrugs, rolling her sleeve over it.
"It was from Adam....he cut me...." Aurei confesses, hanging her head low. She winces as I stare intently at her arm. I look back at her, she just walks over to the sink to start putting everything back inside the aid kit. I stand up and walk down the hall into the bedroom.
"You have to admit that this is the best that we've ever had." Aurei said with a small smirk, she walks inside and towards the dresser, opening it to find a whole pack of bullets.
"That's strange...why do they have extra ammo in a guest room?" Aurei asks, picking up the pack. I saunter towards the dresser, it had extra change, and a sheath.
"So that must mean..." I said, squating down to the second drawer, I tug slightly, causing Aurei to step back. I peer inside to see a revolver. Whoever it belonged to...must've disappeared...
I should stop being paranoid...until I find some sort of alibi or proof that something's up with this place....
"What the hell are you doing?" A voice that belongs to Lydia snaps, Aurei takes a deep breath, I watch as her hands ball up into fists, hearing her knuckles pop.
"That's our stuff!" Lydia growls, walking closer to Aurei. I could feel the tension immediatley rising from these two. I stand up.
"You're right, but we don't trust you just yet." I said, crossing my arms and shooting Aurei a look.
"Neither do we." Lydia shot back, glaring at us, she gives Aurei a fierce glare. Aurei usually gets provoked when someone gets in her face, she'll be ready to beat the hell out of it. But knowing me, I don't promote kids fighting.
