"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing."
- Helen KellerThey'd been on the island for a whole of two days, without seeing anybody other than Peter. They'd stayed in a treehouse with an abandoned fridge full of fresh food, and a closet of clothes for Jane. She had to wonder where he got them from.
They had wondered if any one else was on the island, I mean certainely there had to be. Peter had mentioned lost boys. So how come they were cooped up here? Taking a deep breath, Jane stared down at her chipped cup, inside of it was tea. It was makeshift, it didnt taste the best, but it was all they had to drink.
She had to admit Neverland wasn't anything like it was in the stories. She hadn't had the chance to see or do any of the things Peter had told her about. Was this all that they'd be doing?
After the first day, though, Peter came and took Jared away. She didn't know where, but he promised her he'd be safe.
She could only hope.
Suddenly, the house shook, the abrupt sound of climbing and scratching emmitted from downstairs. The already chipped cup fell off of the wooden table, shattering on the wood panels. Sighing, she bent down to pick up the pieces, when the alluring sound of someone scratching wood, came again.
Curious, Jane scuttled to the ladder, looking down below, squinting when there was nothing to see. Still not amused, she descended downstairs, leaving the shattered cup upstairs.
Looking around, her eyes widened as she spotted a boy, just as suprised to see her as she was to see him. Animal furs draped over his shoulders, and leaves and leather wrapped around the rest of his body, crafted to look as if armour. Frozen, he blinked, finally he eased up after a few seconds, but the shock on his features never seemed to leave.
"A girl? What is a girl doing in Neverland?" Curiosity slithered in his tone, no sign of insult or anger in his voice. Just pure curiosity.
She cleared her voice, dirt staining her face.
"Pardon you, Peter brought my brother and I here." she explained, crossing her arms. So it seemed Peter wanted to keep her a secret from all of the lost boys. Well she assumed he was a lost boy, at least.
But why? If Neverland was truly the place it was in the stories, lost boys would greet any newcomer with a grinning face!
Swallowing, The boy, neared her, getting closer and closer, till they were face to face. He took in all of her features; the glint in her eye, the light fuzz above her lip, and the dirt plastered on her cheeks.
"I do apologize my lady." he breathed.
And before she could ask what for, he pulled a sack from behind him, trapping her in it, wrapping it around her head and tying the noose.
She struggled and kicked at the boy, but it was no use, his hold on her was simply too strong.
