"Emma, hurry up! You've got your first ever track practice today at your new school!"

My dad yelled to me from down the hallway.

I yelled back, "Coming, Coach."

I was all set for school and had my track outfit in my sports bag.

The problem is I have to try and fit in because you see I've been home schooled all my life.

Cherry isn't excited about me moving into her school as well.

She finds me hard to handle, but I'm not so don't listen to her.

Probably the only good thing about this whole new school thing besides track is my boyfriend Christian goes here.

I decided to wear my dark blue rosy dress that Christian said he loves on me.

So far, I have one friend and his name is Johnny Cade.

We both shared common interests being ignored and alone.

Christian doesn't think I should be friends with Greasers.

He says that they can be dangerous and want to try to hurt me.

Ever since my mom died I haven't been feeling the peace and comfort I need.

But when I'm with Johnny, I feel like I could open up to him.

And he actually does listen!

Anyways back to school, I'm really nervous I won't make any friends.

I am a really shy person and I don't like to socialize that much.

My motto is if you talk to me I'll talk back, but if you don't then I won't.

When my dad pulled me up to the school, he said, "Ok, now I want you to run as fast as you can at track meeting you here?"

I nodded my head and said, "Yes, Coach."

I opened the car door and stepped out onto the sidewalk of our school.

My dad drove off in his new car as I started to look around.

The school colors could use some work and so could the dress code.

But I'm here to learn and for me to experience things that are new.

As I walked inside the school, my hands started shaking.

I looked around for Christian everywhere, but I couldn't find him.

The front desk office lady gave me my schedule since I started second semester.

I started wondering around the hallways just looking for my locker.

I thought to myself people are gonna think I'm lost.

As I opened the door to Mr. Hambrock's classroom, I watched as everyone was looking at me.

I was late.

I muttered to myself, "Oh, crap."

I hesitantly gave the note my dad gave me to the teacher.
