           Chapter 3

I woke up to bright lights and loud beeping. I could hear voices around me, some I recognized, some I didn't. The main one I focused on was the voice of the officer who held my hand. He sounded upset, but I couldn't tell why. He was arguing with another man, but I didn't recognize his voice.

"Jaiden, you are being ridiculous. She doesn't even know who you are. If you come out and tell her this, she will run away from you." The other male whispered angrily.

"Daemon, I don't need your opinion. She is my mate and I can handle the situation in whatever way I want to." The officer, who I now know is Jaiden, replied back just as angry. When I was finally able to focus my eyes, I look over at Jaiden and his friend Daemon.

"What is going on?" I croak out, desperately try to sit up. Jaiden and Daemon quickly reach for me, helping me sit up in the hospital bed.

"Hey Violet, I'm Jaiden and this is Daemon, we're the FBI." Jaiden introduces gently. He grabs onto my hand and rubs his thumb, sensing my rising panic.

"What hospital am I at? What happened to the other girls? What happened to Greg?" I shoot off my questions like wild fire, I need answers or I will go crazy.

"Calm down, it's ok. You are at the local hospital. You have been out for almost 3 days. We were able to locate the other girls' family, and they were able to return home this morning. Greg was placed in jail yesterday after we got done questioning him. He confessed, so he's going to jail for a really long time." Jaiden answered all of my questions in a gentle voice, like he's scared that I'm going to freak out if he raises his voice above a whisper.

"How'd you find us?" I mimic the voice that he is using.

"We actually tracked you, we found your car and retraced your steps. After reports of screaming came flooding into the station, it wasn't hard for us to track you and the other girls down." Daemon quickly answered this question for Jaiden, almost as if there was more to the story that he didn't want Jaiden telling me.

"Who is Greg?" I can sense that Daemon is getting tired of my questions, but Jaiden doesn't seem to mind, and he still has not let go of my hand.

"He is a serial kidnapper; we have been tracking him for years now. He came onto our radar when he kidnapped the first girl."

"Oh God. They were with him for years? I can't imagine what they went through." I wanted to continue but I broke down in sobs before I could. Why do these things always happen to me? I don't know if I can handle much more.

"Shh, calm down. I promise that he won't ever hurt you or anyone else ever again." Jaiden is looking at me with the concerned look, it's almost as if he is about to cry with me. All I can do is nod. I don't want to talk about it anymore, and I think they can tell because Daemon changed the subject to my car.

"You will be staying in the hospital for another day, and then tomorrow you will be transported to a safe house. You will be staying there until further notice, and your car will be sent to a shop to be repaired." Daemon turned professional in a matter of seconds, never taking his eyes off of me.

"A safe house? Why?" I exclaim, I can't think of any reason why I would need to go there. Didn't they just day Greg was in jail?

"Because we know about David, and he knows about you. While you were out he slipped you a letter under your hospital door. The letter was not a letter you would receive from a friend." As Daemon continues Jaiden is staring at me, gauging my reaction. I can't even say anything; how did David find me so quickly? And what did the letter say?

After that, none of us talked. I was staring out of the hospital windows, and Jaiden was staring at me. I could tell that he was worried, although I didn't understand why. I appreciated that he was still holding my hand, something about him was very comforting, and I don't think I could handle losing that comfort at a moment like this.

"Violet?" Jaiden whispers, reaching up and shaking my shoulder slightly.

"Hmm?" I turn to look at him, wondering what he had to say.

"Do you want to talk about David? All our file said was that you needed to be kept away from him at all cost, and his letter was not very descriptive."

"I don't really want to talk about it. It's pretty simple, he's crazy and he wants me." I whisper and look down.

"Ok, Violet, I understand." He whispers back. Neither of us spoke a word for the rest of the night and eventually I fell asleep, with him still never letting go of my hand.
