Chapter 19

I woke up in a dingy room on a dingy bed. The walls were dirty and moldy and the floors were old cement. Basically, the place I was staying in was a piece of shit. I could barely make out some low murmurs in the floor above me, but I can't tell what their saying. My legs were weighted down with heavy chains and my wrist protested when I yanked lightly at the cuffs. Luckily they weren't sliver, from what I remember Jaiden telling me, silver was bad for wolves and immobilized them. Using the non-silver cuffs and chains as an indicator, David was either incredibly stupid (which is highly likely) and didn't know about the silver thing, even though he's a werewolf, or he has no idea that I have a tail.

I felt around in my mind, trying to feel Jaiden's presence, but I couldn't feel anything but weak pulses of a headache. I have never been more terrified in my entire life. I know in all those heroic stories, the strong female character always knows what to do and is never scared, but this isn't a story. This is reality, and I am absolutely terrified. I thought I had finally gotten away from my awful past, away from David for forever. But I got too caught up in love; I should've run when I had the chance. Now Jaiden is either seriously hurt or dead. I brought this too him. This is my entire fault.

Wait. What am I thinking? This isn't my fault. This is that fuckers fault that is upstairs. David did this. Not me. This isn't my fault, I didn't start this, David did, I just got caught in the crosshairs. I'm not just going to wallow in my misery. I'm going to get away from him. I did this once and I can do it again. All I have to do is play a game that he'll never expect. I'll play a game that only one person knows the rules too. That person will be me, and I'll be damned if I lose a game I started.

My plan was decided, until I heard the one thing I was not expecting.

Jaiden's POV

I woke up feeling slightly fuzzy, like I took too many sleeping pills at once. Except I wasn't in my bed, I was on the ground of a nasty cell. I leap up quickly to scan the room, but quickly regret it when my wrist hiss from the silver cuffs. My ankles stung slightly as I tugged lightly at the chain wrapped around them.

I felt like I was missing something big, something monumental. But I couldn't think about what it was; my mind was just too foggy. I couldn't even remember what my own name was, much less what the name of my mate was.

Wait a minute. "VIOLET" I yell, panicked. Where is she? Is she ok? What if she's hurt? I can't stop the thoughts whirling around in my brain; I'm so scared for the love of my life.

I can't breathe for a couple of seconds until I hear a timid voice call out, "Jai?" I have never heard something so beautiful, Violet was alive, she wasn't completely safe, but at least she was alive.

"Are you ok?" She ask breathlessly and I hear a rustle of chains as she gets up.

"I'm fine," I reassure, "How about you? Are you ok?" I demand.

"I'm good, scared, terrified actually, but I'm fine." She soothes and I sag in relief.

"Oh thank God." I whisper thankfully. We're still locked up in cells, but at least we're both unharmed for now.

"I don't know what your thanking God for, he has given you nothing." A cold voice calls out from the door of my cell. This man, David I'm assuming, is standing behind the silver bars that line my cell, sneering at me.

"He has given me all that I could hope for in a situation like this." I snap back and quickly make my way to the door, only stopping when my chain permits from going any further. I hiss in pain as the silver digs into my ankle as I yank at it. David just laughs cruelly and walks past my cell to the one beside me.

"Hey sweet heart. Long time no see." He sneers at Violet and opens up her cell.

"Get away from me, you sicko" I heard her snap. A few seconds later a loud slap echoed through the jail.

"You better watch yourself darling." He laughed coldly as I let out a loud snarl.

"Don't you touch her!" I yell out and pull on my chains. I try to shift, but I can't because of the silver.

"Oh, big tough guy over there." He sneered, "What are you so tough about? You can't even protect your mate."

"I will kill you!"

"How? With your eyes?" He chuckled darkly, "Sorry to break it to you bad boy, but you're all chained up with no way out."

"Now," He continues, "If you'll excuse me, me and Princess have a lot to talk about, and we're going to do over a nice meal upstairs." I heard a struggle as Violet tried to get away from him, but the loud sounds of their fight died down as Violet seemed to give up.

"Violet, darling, I'm going to find a way to save both of us. I promise." I called out, but I got no reply.

"Sorry, Violet can't come to the phone right now, I've sedated her with something strong enough to last for a couple of hours." David sneered out as he left the jail and slammed the door. I was speechless with fear for my mate. What am I supposed to do now?
