Chapter 4
Leaving the hospital was an adventure in itself. The drug Greg gave me had already completely worn off, but the concussion from my car crash was still very much there. Jaiden was acting weird, almost as if he was nervous. I kept looking around, making sure that David was no where near me.
"What is wrong with you?" I demanded, after Jaiden had helped me into the car.
"I'm just being safe." He explains, and gives me a small smile before slamming my door shut. Those were the only words we shared on the way to the safe house. When we pulled up to a house in the middle of the suburbs I gave him an incredulous look.
"This is a safe house? In the middle of a cookie cutter neighborhood?" He doesn't say anything, just gives me a tight smile and steps out of the car. When he comes around to my side to help me out I stop him.
"Tell me what is going on." I demanded, getting sick of his skittish behavior.
"It's nothing, I promise. I will relax when you get inside the house." He promises, making me roll my eyes. I try to be considerate, he has helped through a lot in the past couple of days, but his nervousness is wearing off on me.
When we finally get inside the house, it's like a weight has fallen off of his shoulders, but he is still skittish. The house itself is nice, it looks lived in, with worn out furniture and dirty dishes in the sink.
"Does someone live here?" I ask suspiciously, and look at him. He's trying to fight off a blush, but he is pretty unsuccessful.
"I do. Sorry I would have cleaned up if I had had the chance." He nervously rubs the back of his neck, giving me a sheepish look. "We probably should have given you a heads up, but this is the safest place we could find on such short notice."
"No it's ok. I like it, it's nice." I give him a smile, trying to soothe his nerves. It looks like it worked because he finally dropped his hand from the back of his neck.
"Look there is something I should tell you, you deserve to know." He starts, but suddenly stops. I nod at him to continue, he gives me a long look before starting again. "I am a werewolf" He takes one look at me and notices the look on my face. His words have proven to me that without a shadow of a doubt this man was insane.
"Look I can prove it to you," He talking really fast, painfully forcing his words out. "I'm only tell you this because you are my mate." He takes a step towards me, but I quickly back away from him.
"Get away from me. You are psycho." I demand. I start to back away from him when he does something completely unexpected. He turns into a werewolf.
"What. The. Hell." These were my last words before I passed out. Right in front of a werewolf.
When I open my eyes I take in my surroundings. It looks like Jaiden carried me to one of the rooms in the house. My head is pounding, and I am starving. Luckily I can move around freely, because judging how my week was going, I was expecting to be tied up.
I Force myself out of the bed, and make my down the hallway. I eventually find the kitchen, immediately stopping when I see who is standing at the stove. Jaiden turns to look at me expectantly.
"I want to go home." I blurted out, even though that is the last thing I wanted to do. Home was filled with too many memories of David.
