The morning of the official Sofia search party brought on a whole new weight to your shoulders. After two days of being missing, didn't the authorities search for a body? You couldn't remember and each passing minute felt like a new threat to your mental stability.

Rick rolled an arsenal of melee weapons on the hood of a car.

"Everybody takes a weapon," he said. You began to look over the items. Machetes and axes, from the looks of it. Maybe other types of weapons.

You glued your eyes onto one of the machetes. You were pretty good with a machete. An old friend of yours, Josie, loved blades. She had swords mounted in her dorm room. There was no doubt she was still alive.

"These aren't the kind of weapons we need," Andrea argued. "What about the g-"

"It honestly doesn't matter," you stated simply. Andrea shot an upset look at you. "Guns risk attracting more walkers. Things other than guns risk running into too many walkers." You grabbed one of the machetes and eyed the blade, smiling a little as you thought of Josie. "We're going in circles here, so I'm just gonna take my weapon and go." And with that, you shut your mouth. Some of the others cocked their heads to the side. Some looked at you out of the corner of their eyes, almost stifling laughs like cutting off Andrea was funny (which it was, by the way). You didn't care, just wanting to find Sofia and get to anywhere safe at this point.

Shane smiled a little as he said, "Anyway..."

Daryl took over, a constant unamused look on his face. "The idea is to take the creek up about five miles, turn around and come back down the other side. Chances are she'll be by the creek. It's her only landmark."

You nodded as he spoke, memorizing it in your head. You looked over to Glenn, who had an oddly shaped black tool thingy in his hand. It was like a knife, up until the tip, which was kind of like a crowbar or something. He smiled brightly at it and then at you. You smiled, too.

"Stay quiet and stay sharp," Rick said. "Keep in sight of each other."

You gripped your machete in your hand, nodding to yourself. Sofia is by the creek. You were just going to get her. She was definitely there. You gazed out toward the woods.

Okay. Sofia was hopefully  there.

"Hey, (Y/N)," Glenn said, walking up to you.

You smiled. "Hey. How's life today?"

"I think it classifies as not good," he replied, exhaling in an almost-laugh manner, a tight half-smile becoming his expression.

"Yeah," you said. "That's probably not the best question right now."

He looked at his feet. "Yeah."

"Hopefully the answer is different tomorrow, huh?" you looked at your machete as you fidgeted with it, realizing you were nervous to talk to him. Crushes were hard without dead people walking around, but now it kinda seems harder.

He seemed to notice your nervousness, but didn't mention it. "Let's make that happen."

You looked up at him and nodded, immediately looking back down. He bumped into your shoulder with his. You bumped into him back. The two of you started doing it back and forth, giggling like kids.

"Chinaman! (Y/N)!" Daryl yelled from the guardrail. "Come on!"

Glenn sighed. "I try to tell him I'm Korean, he just doesn't listen."

You laughed at his jokingly disappointed expression as the two of you made your way to the guardrail and into the woods. To Grandmother's house you go.

You walked quietly in an almost single-file line. You and Glenn walked right beside each other like you were joined at the hip. You tried not to focus on him being next to you. You had more important things to worry about.

Eventually the walking stopped and you saw Daryl crouch down at the front of the line. You followed his line of sight to see an abandoned camp. It was small, like one or two people had been there.

"She could be in there," you heard Shane whisper.

"Could be a whole bunch of things in there," Daryl answered, making sure his crossbow was ready to fire.

You tried to step a little closer. Glenn put his arm in front of you.

'Wait,' he mouthed. You nodded as he stepped a little ahead of you and a little in front of you. You smiled a little at that.

You tried to see through the tall, thick bushes as Daryl, Rick, and Shane stepped toward the camp, making sure their footsteps were quiet. Daryl made his way toward the tent slowly, inspecting it and trying to see inside. He made some sort of vague gesture toward Rick and Shane, stepping back.

"Carol," Rick whispered, waving her over. She quickly walked over.

You got a little closer to see what was happening. Carol was still walking slowly toward the camp, covering her mouth with her small hand. That meant that Sofia had  to be in there, right?

Rick whispered something to her. She nodded and began to speak.

"Sofia, sweetie," she called softly; meekly. You grabbed onto Glenn's arm and bit your lip. Please.

"Are you in there? Sofia, it's mommy." Carol's voice was that of a woman on the edge of breaking. Daryl inspected the tent some more.

"Sofia? We're all here, baby, it's mommy." You couldn't see the tears running down her face, but you could hear the lump in her throat. You loosened your grip on Glenn's arm, almost becoming limp. Daryl carefully unzipped the tent and peered inside, coughing at the smell.

He went inside. And then came out.

No Sofia. Your stomach dropped. Glenn looked over to you and nodded sadly. You bit your lip.

No Sofia bounced around in your head. No Sofia, no Sofia, no Sofia.

And suddenly, no Sofia didn't sound like words anymore.
