Kayani POV:

I said farewell

You took it well

Promise I won't cry over spilled milk

I sang along to SZA's hit song Love Galore as I continued getting dressed. The melodies blasted through my speaker as I added the final touches to my makeup and fluffed my curly hair one last time. Once I was finished, I cut off the song, grabbed my black MK purse and proceeded to go downstairs.

"Hey mama, hey Lani." I spoke to my mother and 11 year old sister.

"Hi baby girl. I need you to drop Lani off to her dance class today. I have to be at the hospital early today." my mom said to me. She works as a nurse in our local hospital so her being at work all the time was something I was used to.

"No problem mom. You ready Pook?" I said to my sister, Kehlani, calling her by her nickname given to her by my mother.

"Yes," she called. "And don't call me that!"

I chuckled at her response and kissed my mom goodbye. I went to start the car and wait for my sister to come out. As I turned on the car my phone rang and it was my best friend Sierra calling. "Heyyyy boo!" she yelled through the phone. "Where are you at? You got us waiting for you and you were the one that decided to meet for lunch! Besides, there's someone here we think you should meet." She was referring to her, her boyfriend Blake and our other friend, Mike. But I had no clue who they wanted me to meet.

"I know Si Si, I'm on my way. Right after I drop Lani off. And if you have a blind date in mind cancel it now. You know I'm not looking to be tied down right now, Sierra." I responded to her. Sierra was my best, and really my only, girl friend. I had other acquaintances but she was the only one I told everything to. She knew about my past failed relationships and everything I went through.

She sighed loudly before saying, "I know, I know. But just trust me on this one. Hurry up!" Before I got the chance to respond, she hung up in my face. I shook my head at her crazy antics as my sister got in the car.

"Finally." I mumbled before pulling off. After about 20 minutes, Lani was at dance class and told me she was going to her friend's house afterwards and that mommy would pick her up from there.

"Okay, love you Pook and be good!" I yelled out the window. I laughed at the embarrassed face she gave me before running into the dance school.

After about 20 minutes, I pulled into the parking lot of the cafe The Friendly Bean with Playboi Carti's Magnolia blasting through my speakers. I turned down the radio after parking and sped to the door.

I told the hostess my friends were already here and I walked to the table they were at once I spotted them. "Hey y'all!" I spoke once I reached the table. "Sorry I'm l-late. I w-was-" I stuttered as I looked into the eyes of the finest man I'd ever seen. I had no idea who he was but he was beautiful.

"Whatever girl," Sierra spoke. "This is Chris, Mike's cousin. Chris this is Kayani."

"Wassup ma." Chris said as he licked his lips. He spoke with the smoothest New York accent I've ever heard, I nearly melted.

"Hey, I'm Kayani." I smiled shyly. "Hey Blake, hey Wazowski." referring to Mike using the nickname we'd given him freshman year. We sat as a group catching up on what we did over Spring break when we weren't together and getting to know Chris more. I was trying to engage in the conversation but I just couldn't stop staring at him. His lightly toned skin, perfectly groomed beard and perfect lips were the only things that had my attention.

"Okay y'all, we're still on for tonight, right? Me and Nani are going to get our nails done and do some shopping." Sierra said.

"Cool, we'll see y'all later." Sierra kissed Blake and the rest of us said our goodbyes and parted ways.

"I didn't know we had plans to go shopping. But I don't mind, I need to pick up a few things anyways." I said to Sierra, completely oblivious to what what was going on. We walked to my car and Sierra got in the passenger seat.

"Girl you ain't low!" she slightly screamed while slamming my car door. "I saw you giving Chris them flirty eyes. You like him, don't you?" she interrogated.

"First of all, careful with that door unless you paying for a new one. Secondly, sure I like him. He seems pretty cool. I don't know him enough to like him any more than that though." I responded, lying. I started the car, hooked up my phone to the AUX and pulled out of the parking lot.

"Sure," she said, making sure to drag the word out. "I know you like the back of my hand Nani. But if you want to keep fronting, be my guest!"

"Girl, I ain't fronting! Yeah he's extremely attractive but I don't think we'd ever be together or anything if that's what you're referring to." I said to Sierra.

"Keep on lying Nani, you gon' have a tongue full of lie bumps if you keep it up." she said shaking her head at me.

I laughed and pulled into a parking space. "Come on crazy. We need to run in and run out so we can make it back to the nail salon in time."

We both got out of the car and walked into the mall. I was extremely attracted to Chris but I don't think I'm even his type. I'm sure he doesn't see me in that way so we'll just remain friends and that's that.

---

Later that day...

Sierra and I decided to get dressed at her house since my mom was trying to get some rest. We got dressed while listening to music that played from Sierra's speaker. After nearly 2 hours of singing, dancing and doing makeup, we were ready and walking downstairs to meet the boys outside. When we walked out Blake, Mike, some random chick and Chris were standing outside, leaning against Blake's car.

"Took ya long enough! Damn." Mike said.

"Shut your long headed ass up." Sierra said to him before kissing Blake.

"Hey Blake, wassup Wazowski. Hey Chris." I hugged each of them and almost melted when I gave Chris a hug. He smelled like heaven and looked real good too. He had on a white shirt with a $100 bill across the front, dark denim jeans and some Timbs.

"So who's riding with who?" asked Mike.

After some discussion, Sierra and Blake rode in Blake's car because it was a two door and they were going to Blake's together after the party and Mike drove his car with the girl he brought in the front and me and Chris in the back. The party was fairly close to Sierra's house so we were there in less than 10 minutes. Upon pulling up, there were people with red cups everywhere and the music was blasting. Parties aren't really my scene, I only agreed to go because Sierra basically begged me to.

I hopped out of the car and prayed everything would go smoothly and that I'd enjoy my night.
