Chris POV:
I groaned loudly as I picked up my phone to see who was calling. The name "Kay Bear" popped up on the screen and I smiled immediately.
"What's up shawty?" I said in a sleepy tone.
"Hey, did I wake you?"
"You good, what's up wit'cha?" I stood and stretched.
"I was calling to see if we were still meeting with Janae today and if so, what time? I was going to schedule a hair appointment and I wanted to make sure it didn't interfere with anything."
"Oh, I think we're meeting with her later over dinner. So probably like 7." My phone dinged and I took it away from my ear to see a text message. "That's her texting me now, she said some family stuff came up so she has to reschedule until tomorrow."
"Aw man, tell her I hope everything is okay. But I'll talk to you later, I'm gonna take Lani to the nail and hair salon today."
"Wait, will I get to see you today?"
"Hmmmm, I don't know. Maybe. I'll see what I can do." I could tell she was smiling which made me smile.
"Man gon' with all that. Am I gonna see yo' big headed ass or what?" I joked.
"I would say yes if you weren't so mean to me."
"So that's a yes. I'll see you later ugly."
"Boy, bye." I laughed before hanging up. I was feeling her even more now after that kiss and I couldn't shake the feeling. I don't think I want to though.
Kayani's birthday was coming up and so was my mother's, considering they were on the same day. I always visited my mother's grave to sit and talk with her but I also wanted to do something special for Kayani. I went to my messages app to text Sierra to see if she had anything planned.
Me: hey, did u plan anything for nani's birthday?
Seconds later, my phone was ringing; it was Sierra.
"What's up, girl?"
"I am so glad you called! I don't know what took you so long though, her birthday is in two days Chris!"
"I know, I know. I'm sorry."
"Lucky for you, I did have something planned. As we all know, Nani is hard to surprise. She's also very adventurous. I was thinking we do something like go carting. Ooh! Or laser tag! Since we always go out to eat together."
"Those sound cool. Then we can have a pizza or something afterwards. Also, I kinda want your help with something."
"Like what?"
I rubbed the back of my head, nervous to say what I wanted to say next.
