Kayani POV:
3 weeks later...
I walked back into Chris' living room and sat my computer on my lap. I sighed defeatedly, annoyed with the fact that no new job opportunities were opened as yet.
"What's wrong?" Chris asked.
"Um, nothing." I said to him. I hadn't told anyone that the job at Andy's Modeling Agency hadn't gone through, only my mother.
"You gon' quit lying to me." he said sitting up to look me in my eyes. "Now tell me what's bothering you."
I sighed before giving in. "The job at the modeling agency didn't work out so well."
"What happened?" he asked.
"Well as soon as I walked in, I sensed something was off but I brushed it off. When I went into the office everyone was really rude off the bat. Long story short, his secretary, the lady that called me, mixed up my pictures with another girl's and booked the interview with the wrong person. Andy, the man who was supposed to interview me, was some middle aged white man who told me that people of color were not what he wanted for his agency and asked me to leave." I said before holding my face in my hands. I started crying and felt Chris pull me onto his lap.
"Stop crying, ma. I hate seeing you like this." he rubbed my back.
"I'm sorry." I said wiping my face and looking at him. "I'm so sick of crying all the time but nothing is going my way." I pouted.
He wiped my face for me and looked into my eyes. "Look at me." he said, lifting my chin with his fingers. "They didn't want you, so what? It's their loss. This just means bigger and better will come your way. But that will only happen if you keep your head up and stop crying all the damn time, punk." he said playfully, making me smile. "With that being said, I got some news for you."
"What?" I asked, anxiously.
"Well, Janae has been looking for a model for her fashion line. She can't be the only model anymore since she has so many things lining up for her. So I may have told her I know someone looking for a job that might be interested."
"Shut up!" I said punching him in the arm before hopping off of his lap. "Are you serious??"
"Yes, I'm serious. You wanna do it or what?" he asked standing up off of the couch.
"Hell yeah!" I yelled before jumping into his arms. He caught me and I hugged his neck. "Thank you so much Chris. You don't know how much this means to me." I said to him.
