I almost ran out the door when Alexia stopped me. I looked down at her hand that held my wrist.
"Don't. If anything startles them they'll attack, killing you and those people."
The way she said "those people" convinced me she didn't know who the Morgensterns' were.
"Then how do we get out of here?" I asked.
She thought for a moment. Her eyes scanned the room. I kept mine on her face. I realized something, whatever possessed Alexia had a mind of its own. It knew how to think. But I still didn't know what was inside her.
"Maybe we can leave from the roof. There's a way to get up there, besides there are trees surrounding the house so we'll be able to get down easily," she said confidently.
Before I could a agree she grabbed my hand and led me upstairs.
When we reached the top, Alexia led me to the last door at the far end of the hallway. She swung it open. She let go of my hand as she walked over to the large window. With my help we both managed to lift it.
"I'll go first, that way I can help you once I'm up." I looked over at her and she nodded in response.
I hoisted myself up on the ledge and I climbed out. I held on to the edge of the roof. I boosted myself up. I reached down and motioned Alexia to come up. She came as easily as I did. I held her close to me as soon as she stood up. With one arm around her waist we walked towards the front.
We looked down at the Morgensterns and the demons. Neither seemed to notice us. I realized a problem.
"How are we going to let them know we're out? We don't need them to fight. We just need them to back away." I wondered aloud.
"I see what you mean. If they don't get out of here then the demons will kill them. They won't hesitate," she said looking down at them.
My eyes scanned her face. "How would know?"
"Valentines' orders. I--Alexia remembered him saying that before I went in. I can hear her thoughts," she said slowly.
"Wait did you say Alexia remembered?" I said. No longer interested in what was going on below us.
"Yea. Well I can still feel her. When Valentine put me in her body I didn't expect her to be so strong. I expected her to go away. She's stronger than I thought." She said.
"Alexia is in there? Can she hear me?" I asked with anticipation.
"Actually she's speaking to me now." She paused for a moment. And in that moment hope rised over me. Hope that I could still find her and save her. "She misses you. She says she loves you." She said with a tone of curiosity in her voice.
I suddenly pulled her closer, not caring if a demon was inside her. "Alexia if you can hear me, listen. I'm here, I won't let you go." My voice cracked a little. "I miss you so much it just hurts." I pulled her into a hug. "I'll save you. Just bear with me. I love you Alexia. God I love you so much." I pulled her face up and met my lips with hers. I missed the warmth of her mouth. The way she tasted and how she felt in my arms. She soon responded and wrapped her arms around my neck. My hands slid down to her waist and I pulled her closer.
"Sean." She breathed.
I parted and looked down at her. Her eyes were golden.
"Sean I need you. I missed you so much. Please get me out of this. I feel trapped inside my own head, it's awful." She almost sobbed.
I held her face between my hands and looked into her eyes. "I'll do anything to get you out of this. I won't let Valentine take you again I swear."
She held on to me. Then she kissed me hard. It was as if this was the last time I'd see her. She kissed me as if she needed it to live. I held her close, my hand going behind her neck twisting in her hair. Being near her was as easing as breathing. Finally she slowed down. I realized Alexia was gone and the demon replaced her. I parted from her.
"Why did you do that?" she whispered. I still held her close.
"Because you're inside the girl I love." I said.
"I can see why you love her. She's pretty, smart, arrogant. But I can see why you like her." She pulled away from me.
"I don't like her. I love her. That's why I'm here. But I don't like her just because she's pretty. I like her because she's brave and selfless and would do anything for those she loves." I tried to reach for her but she stepped away.
"I'm not her okay. I'm just inside her. Just don't do this. I'm not comfortable with the fact that you're kissing me when it's not me you want. Just don't okay." She turned away from me.
I understood what she said, and she was right. But I didn't have time to deal with that right now. We had bigger problems. I had to separate the Morgensterns' from the demons. We had to do something to distract the demons from attacking. I had an idea.
"We have to jump." I said suddenly. I walked closer to the edge of the roof.
"What the hell! Are you crazy!" She exclaimed.
"Yep. Let's go we don't have much time." I said getting ready. "Get your weapons ready we're gonna jump on top of them and let the Morgensterns' run and find a portal." I was ready to jump.
"So we're risking our lives for them!" She exclaimed.
I turned and almost yelled. "That is your family down there! how can you say that!"
"I don't know them!"
"Alexia does! So if you don't get with it I will slap some sense into you. That's our family down there and we're going to jump down there whether you like it or not!" this time I really yelled and I'm pretty sure they heard me down there.
I turned and jumped. Sword in hand, I landed on top of a demon and I stabbed it as hard as I could. It disappeared underneath me and I landed on the ground. All demons faced me.
"Run! Go find a portal!" I yelled at the Morgensterns'.
Some of them listened others didn't. Stephanie, Jack, Nathan, and Shelby stayed. My dad and Stephan left inside the house to find a portal.
I looked around and saw that Alexia wasn't down yet. I looked up. She was still standing on the edge of the roof. Her beauty struck me for a brief moment. The distraction cost me. I felt something hit me hard. I landed on the ground with a demon on top of me. Since the sword fell out of my hand I was trying my best to push it off me. Problem was this thing was three times bigger than I was. I avoided the blows but I caught some in my face. Pretty sure I'm going to have a black eye tomorrow. That is if I survive this first. The demon kept punching me in the eye and the area near it. I was about to black out if I didn't get this thing off me soon. It was about to deliver another hit but all of a sudden it's weight lifted from me. I tried to see what was going on but the pain in my eyes didn't let me. All I heard were grunts and swords clashing. A hand touched my face.
"Sean you okay?" A voice asked.
I couldn't identify it so I just nodded my head.
"We have to move!" I heard someone yell.
"Help me get Sean I think he's about to black out!" I heard.
Seconds went by but it felt like hours to me but eventually I felt hands trying to lift me from the ground. I tried to stand but the pain in my head was so overwhelming and I was starting to get dizzy. I stumbled and almost fell but someone caught me.
"I got you son. Let's go, Stephan lead the way. The rest of you can cover us. Watch out for any demons or Valentine."
"Sean you're going to be okay."
Those were the last words I heard...
