Chapter 12
KATANA'S POV:We reached our new house in about six hours. And let me tell you, the drive was extremely boring. I only brought one book and I finished it within the first hour.
Our new house was smaller than the old one, only 3000 square feet, if my dad was correct. I'm not saying it this way to sound snobby like 'Oh, it's only 3000 square feet' I'm just stating a fact.
I went inside carrying my bag. The rest of my stuff was in the back of the moving truck, so that was all that I had to bring in. The inside of the house was nice, but our old house was nicer. I won't go into the boring details of the house but I'll tell you about my room.
There wasn't anything in it, of course, but the walls were painted a nice turquoise color, that reminded me of the color of Stephen's eyes. And Kylar's. Sigh. I guess I wasn't totally over him just yet.
There was a large window seat that was wood without any cushion. That was good. I could pick my own.
It was a square room with a walk-in closet and a white ceramic tiled bathroom. The bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub, a large shower and a sink and, of course, a toilet. I mean, how could it be a bathroom without a toilet?
I went outside to explore the yard when the moving guys started bringing the furniture in.
The only thing that was out of place with nature was a wooden tree-house. I almost didn't see it because it was painted camouflage.
I walked over to the tree and circled it looking for a way up. There were a bunch of wooden planks nailed to the tree, so I pulled on a couple of them, testing their strength. They held so I started climbing up them until I got to the top of the tree.
There was a trapdoor above my head, so I took one hand off the planks and pushed it up. It slammed to the floor with a loud bang. I looked around to see if anyone was around to hear it. Nope.
I pulled myself up through the hole and looked around the interior.
The whole thing was made of wood. There were a couple old chairs by the window but otherwise there wasn't anything in it.
This would make a nice room, I thought. If I could insulate it or something.
I looked around one more time, assessing what I would need, then climbed back down, jumping the last few feet to the ground.
"There you are!" my mom exclaimed the second I came around the other side of the tree. "I've been looking for you. We're going to get some dinner. You can pick what we get."
"How about we just get McDonald's? I'm not that hungry." I said.
"Alright. I'll get you your usual." She said, going around the house to the car. I heard her start it up and drive away.
I went inside the house and tried to find the way back to my room.
When I finally located it, I went inside and flopped down on the bed and stared at the ceiling until my mom came back.
I ate my food while unpacking the numerous boxes stacked next to the door. I hung the picture of me and Stephen at the water park that he had taken me to, to help me forget about Kylar. I stood there, staring at it for a minute, remembering how much fun we had had that day. Stephen was sticking his tongue out at me and my eyes were crossed and I had a huge grin on my face. We had asked one of the personnel there to take the picture for us, since we couldn't do it ourselves.
I finished hanging all my clothes in the closet by the time that my parents were going to bed. I wasn't tired, so I decided to call Stephen.
I got the answering machine so I decided to try texting him.
'R u there Stephen?'
A minute later I got a reply.
'Am now. What's up?'
'I'm done unpacking.'
'Nice.'
'What did u do after I left?'
'Nothing really. I went back 2 my house and was bored.'
'U really did nothing? Couldn't u have done one of ur reports for school, or something?'
'Nah. I have plenty of time 2 do them.'
'Ok. U can't hear me so I'll tell u. There is skepticism in my tone.'
'lol. Whatever.'
'Well, I'm going 2 sleep now, so I'll ttyt.'
"What the heck does that mean?'
'Talk to u 2morrow.'
'Oh, alright. ttyt then, I guess.'
'Night Stevie.'
'Night T.'
I smiled and got under my blankets, putting my phone on my nightstand and turning my totally awesome Twilight lamp off.
Good night Stephen.

The next morning I asked my dad if he could drive me to the hardware store so that I could get some things to spruce up the tree-house.
He agreed, so at about 11 o'clock we went down to the store and I picked up some dark purple paint and some soft rope (not the rough kind that burns your hands). I decided that I would buy the rest of the stuff later, after I had finished painting and all that stuff.
When I finished paying, we went home and I immediately got to work and I worked without stopping for about two hours.
After that, I took a break and went around to the front of the house and started stretching for a run.
"Hey!"
I looked up from stretching my legs out.
There was a guy walking up the sidewalk that lead to our house.
He ran a hand through his longish red hair (dyed red, you could tell immediately) and flashed me a blinding smile.
"Hi." I said, standing up from my awkward position and putting my hands in my front pockets.
"You new?" He asked.
"Yes." Wow, I thought, I'm really showing off my brilliant speech skills.
"I'm Justin." He said, sticking his hand out for me to shake.
"Katana." I shook his hand.
"Pretty name." He said, smiling.
I blushed and looked down. "Thanks."
There was a slightly awkward pause and then he said, "Well, it was nice to meet you but I'm on my way to a friend's house. He lives a couple houses down from you. I'll have to bring him over to meet you sometime."
I nodded. "Okay."
"Alright! See you around Kat!" He turned and walked over to his friend's house.
I just stood there.
Nobody had ever called me Kat before. Always Tana.
Maybe, I thought, this could be a new beginning. No one knows what I was like. I could be whoever I wanted to be.
I smiled and started running, all these thoughts swirling in my head.
