Chapter 13-You Called, Justin

Chapter 13
KATANA'S POV:

As I neared my house I heard someone calling my name.

"Kat! Come here!"

I looked around and saw two guys sitting on the front lawn of a house a couple doors down from mine.

One guy had red hair, the other blond.

"You called, Justin." I said sarcastically.

"Ooh! She's snarky! I like her, Justin!" The blond one said.

Justin laughed. "Kat, this is Matthew. But he likes Matt better."

"Hey, our names rhyme!" Matt said. "Kat and Matt,"

I giggled. "Technically my name is Katana. Kat is just what Justin called me earlier this afternoon."

"A nickname already? Jeesh, Justin. You normally don't give a girl a nickname 'til the third meeting! Do you like her?" Matt elbowed Justin in the ribs.

"No I don't. I just didn't know when I'd see her again so I gave it to here then." Justin defended himself.

"Alriiiight." Matt said, dragging out the "i."

"Well, as much as I've enjoyed out little talk, I gotta go." I said.

"Why?" Justin asked.

"Because I'll miss dinner." I said.

"Okay." Matt said. "What are you doing tomorrow?"

"Working on my project." I said.

"What's your project?"

"Ummm...The tree-house in my backyard. I'm restoring it."

"We'll come help!" Justin declared.

"You don't have to help me!" I immediately protested.

"Nonsense." Matt said, waving his hand in the air as if waving my hands away. "We'd be glad to help. Tomorrow's Saturday. We don't have anything planned anyway."

"Ugh, fine. I'll see you tomorrow at 10." I said, walking back to my house.

MATT'S POV

"Dude, she's cute." I told Justin as we went inside.

He glanced back at me.

"Matt, you like Rachel." He said.

"So? I just said she was cute! I didn't say I wanted to date her."

"But that's how it starts. You tell me they're cute, or hot, or beautiful and then next thing I know you have a crush on them and you want to ask them out." Justin explained.

"It's not my fault! The only girl I've ever asked out said no!"

"I know. That's her loss. And I think it's because she's our friend and she doesn't want to make it awkward for the group if you end up splitting."

I sighed. "I'm too shy."

"You're right." Justin agreed. "I am giving you an assignment. Monday, at school, I want you to pick a girl and say hi to her. Nothing big. Just talk to her for a minute or two."

My eyes got big. "You want me to die?" I asked.

He chuckled. "Nope. Just talk to her. It's easy!"

"For you, maybe. For me it's like having enough money for a trip to the moon. In other words: impossible!"

"Just suck it up, dude." Justin said, turning the T.V. on and plugging in the game-station. "What do you wanna play?"

"Call of Duty." I said, sitting down cross-legged on the floor and claiming the green remote controller.

Justin joined me. "I'm gonna whip your butt!"

"No way!" I said, pressing the buttons on the controller. "You're goin' down."

"Whatever. Tomorrow'll be fun."

"Yeah."

We played for a couple hours (with me whipping his butt, if I may add) and then had a snack and went to sleep.
