Chapter 20
KATANA'S POV:The week passed slowly and uneventfully. All I did was my schoolwork and talk to Stephen.
He was my one bright spot in the dark valley. He knew exactly how to cheer me up when I was feeling bad, he knew how to make me laugh, and if he could, he'd just take me away and live with me in the woods. He's so sweet and considerate.
On Friday we had the second half of our Marvel Movie Marathon, watching the Hulk and Iron Man before finally falling asleep after 4 am.
Saturday morning, I was woken up by soft banging noises.
Tap.
I shifted, trying to hold on to my wonderful dream about being at Sea World with Stephen and Kylar.
Tap.
I cracked my eyes open a slit, then groaned and slammed them shut when the full force of the bright sun hit them.
Tap, tap, tap, tap.
"What is your problem?" I asked the air.
"Nothing. I just think you should wake up." The air answered.
I shrieked and sat bolt upright, looking around wildly for the source of the voice.
I saw Matt grinning cheekily at me from my open window.
"What the he- never mind." I shut my eyes and slumped back. "What are you doing here?"
"Mmm, seeing if you wanted to go with Justin and I to town to meet some friends." He smirked and looked away. "Um, you may want to pull your blanket up."
I frantically pulled my duvet up over me. I had completely forgotten what I had been sleeping in! I mean, a spaghetti strap tank top wasn't bad, but the neckline was kind of low.
"Sure, I'll come." I said. "Now go away."
"Why?"
"So I can get dressed! I'll meet you at Justin's house when I'm done."
"Sure, whatever." Matt said, strolling away casually.
I groaned and got up to pull the shades down over the window.
Then, I got out a blue and pink dress, some dark blue heels and a flowered metal headband, put them on, then climbed out my window, jogging over to where Matt and Justin were waiting for me.
"Where are we going?" I asked as I got into the backseat of Matt's car.
"Town." Justin answered simply.
"Haha, I meant where in town."
"Uh, well, we're meeting the gang at the Pavilion, and then I'm not sure what we're doing."
"Who's in this gang?"
"Rachel, Carly, Ben, and a couple others from the chuch down the street from SYLO."
"Oh, um, okay?" I wasn't quite sure why I was going.
As if reading my mind, Matt spoke up.
"You are here so that we all can get to know you better. And if we like you, we'll give you an initiation test to join us."
"What?" I exclaimed. "An initiation for a gang? A real gang? I thought you guys were Christians! Well, except for you, Justin."
"No, not a real gang. That's what we just refer to ourselves as because we just think we're so cool. And the initiation is just supposed to be a little bit of fun." Matt admonished. "Don't freak out, little girl."
