Quote for today's chapter:
Fri end
Boyfri end
Girlfri endIt all finishes with End
Every step we left behind soured, leading us to a village a mile away. The woman who I had discovered was going to be phase one's instructer, wasn't kidding, more of us sat on logs next to the dancing flames of fire, wood on top of it to fuel the electric orange. Their heads shot in our direction, expressionless.
They must have experienced something similar to what we had, or else, what would explain their strangled faces, emptied of anything but clouds shadowing their gray eyes?
One, however, was different from the rest, with not even a single pinch of remorse for anything that might have occured, eyes flickering at the sight of twelve more survivors. He was wearing black jeans with a chain slung around them, a plain V-neck that made it difficult not to notice his baring chest, followed by combat boots to complete the look.
Already, I could tell he was the instructor's favorite, recieving approving half-smiles and dipped heads. From the rest of the competetors, we made sure to scowl and offer pointed glares at the prodigy. Perhaps, the only real reason why we took it out on the star student was because we couldn't do it to the officials, being only minors.
Pinky had been avoiding me ever since someone professionally lunged me to the ground, degrading my confidence by 90%. I guess it was understandable, no one would want to partner up with a weakling like me. Not yet. Not until I was strong enough to hold my ground and look my opponent in the eye.
I leaned against the rough surface of a tree, watching ahead, perplexed. For the first time since I left home, there was no one there to save me. No one to have my back.
A light object fell on top of my head, causing me to stand and fish out whatever it was. When I took it out, I stared at the green-yellowish shaded leaf. "Your hair is so messy, the birds could easily mistake it for their nest." I heard someone make fun of me, the sound of their voice vibrating in my head with my senses ordering me to look up.
My gaze caught the eyes of the boy from earlier, their color reminding me of an undisturbed forest. He was resting his weight on a thin tree branch which I doubted would hold any longer. The male was slender and lean, watching me in a way a hawk would do to a mouse.
I shrug. "I happen to like birds. And animals in general."
"Oh?" Suddenly, his figure is turned upside down, legs wrapped around the branch, the only grip keeping him from falling a couple of feet to his death. From here, he looks like a bat when it's asleep, except, they actually know what they're doing. "And what about the ones that wouldn't hesitate to rip you to shreds?" He purses his lips, amused.
"G-get down from there!" I order, furrowing my brows.
"You haven't answered my question, Princess." He muses, lifting one leg. An air of surprise escapes my mouth, was he suicidal?!
"Yes, even those ones!"
"Why?" Curiousity coloring his tone.
"Because they were raised that way, they don't know any better." I answer, hanging on to his every move. In an instant, the dark haired boy allows his touch to falter, dropping at an excessive rate. I shreak, rushing to catch him.
No need, I realize, as I glimpse at him landing on both feet without wobbling or stumbling. My mouth drops in admiration. He smirks at the others who were lucky enough to witness the action.
