Emma wasn't trying to be cocky; she just knew it was true.
Being the best, she knew she wanted to work for the best - so she left.
Cody Rhodes was known by many names, but one that always stuck out to him was The Star That Left Them In The Dust.
He knew he was better than the Stardust character he had been forced to play, and when the company his family had called home for many years refused to listen to him, he left.
It only takes a few years for the WWE to want the two of them back. In those few years, they had seen each other many times. Some experiences were good, others not so much.
The two stars that left them in the dust have more in common than they realize.

I love Emma. She's my favorite women on Raw. I also love Cody. He's awesome.
Emma leaving was definitely inspired by @-MammaMia-'s new book, though this one is a bit different. (Also, it's inspired by WWE refusing to use her properly)
This takes place whenever Emma + Cody return. It can be as far into the future as you want. There can be flashbacks to the indies if you'd like, or maybe they just reference what has happened between them.
You can also decide if Brandi (Cody's wife) is part of the story, or if she even exists.
