A short one.
I'm in mourning anyway, so suffer with me.
Yes, I'm mean. Sorry.
Farley was dreaming again, of the day Clara was born. She relived the moment, when the newborn, still bloody and wrinkled, was laid in her arms. Once more joy and relief rose in her, filling her up to the point that the sight of her daughter made her cry - from happiness, if she was still able to feel it, that was.
She was truly happy in this dream though. She twitched when a hand touched her shoulder, but it wasn't Ruth's this time. It was Shade hugging her, and he was as proud of their child as she was. He smiled as she cried, yet not without assuring Farley's well-being. "You were awesome," he whispered, "just like her."
And Farley looked at him too, grinning, and forgetting the impossibility of this situation. "I assure you, our baby can't be anything but awesome."
Shade kissed her in response and that's when she woke up.
The realization was pain.
And yet, as much as she wished for this dream to be true, so their little family was complete, so Clara could meet her father, there was a part of her desiring something else. Although the memories of birth, blood and pain lingered in her as well, imagining Shade's casual touch in her dream was as arousing as the sight of bare skin or the most passionate kiss.
She was far from stopping to miss him because just the idea of his physical presence next to her, supporting and caressing only with a sudden smile, or his hand in hers, filled her with an unquenchable yearning.
