Chapter 3

Building Friendships

I was blushing furiously. My mind was racing and I couldn't seem to slow it down. Mainly I couldn't understand the big question gnawing on my brain. 'Why would Carter care about me?'

The bell rang snapping me out of my thoughts. Jennifer gave me a look, but I ignored it. I swiftly exited the room and went to Drawing class. I took a seat at one of the tables and watched the kids coming into the class. I noticed a certain blonde headed guy come in. He looked around the room choosing where to sit. He spotted me and we locked eyes. Then I watched as he walked toward me. He approached the table and asked, "Do you mind if I sit next to you."

The blonde boy was pretty cute. He had these sparkling blue eyes that were so comforting. "I don't mind at all." I said with a smile. He smiled back and he plopped down next to me. "My names Conner." He said extending his hand out to me. "Cassidy." I said while grasping his hand. His grip was strong and his hand felt warm. I giggled at how formal the gesture was.

"So... I have never heard anyone say something like that to Carter." He said laughing while thinking back to the moment I called Carter a jerk. "Ya I feel kind of bad." I said actually meaning it. I was starting to have second thoughts about what I said to him since I got his note. "Don't feel bad his ego needs to be pushed down every now and then." Conner said laughing. I laughed too knowing he was right.

The class started and I learned quickly that I loved the teacher. Her name was Mrs. Anderson. She seemed young and she gave me a good vibe. She passed out black leather notebooks to every student in the class along with a black pen. Then she said, "Draw." And that was all she said. I picked up my pen and let ideas flow through my brain as I turned to the first page. I stopped thinking and drew. This is why I loved drawing; for some reason it shut my brain up.

"That's amazing Cassidy." Conner said. I was pulled out of my imagination back to reality. I looked at what I just drew. It was a lion's face that was really detailed, but then his mane turned into other tiny images. I really loved it. "Thank you." I said smiling back at Conner. I looked over to see his drawings. They were adorable. It was just many different drawings of the cartoon dog bolt. "Your drawing is awesome." I said. He gave me a cheeky smile and thanked me.

We kept talking until the bell rang. The next period was lunch, so I just ended up walking with Conner to the Cafeteria. I learned a lot about him. He liked to draw cartoon characters a lot. He had a little sister and his best friend was Carter and Jennifer.

I saw Jennifer once we got in the cafeteria. I said a quick goodbye to Conner as I went and sat with Jennifer. Other girls came and started sitting around us. Jennifer introduced me to them. "This is Piper, Hannah, Sophia, Issy, Madison, and Autumn." Jennifer said. I smiled and waved to all of them. Piper seemed quiet, but she was gorgeous with her perfect brown hair and flawless skin. Hannah seemed extremely smart and had the most piercing eyes. Sophia and Issy were identical twins and I don't think I would ever tell them apart. Madison was extremely hyper and a non-stop talker. Autumn seemed like the nicest person I had ever met. Overall I was happy that I ended up becoming friends with these girls.

"We all need to hangout guys!" Jennifer whined and everyone nodded their heads in agreement. "You can all sleepover at my house on Saturday if you like." I said feeling nervous that no one would want to come.

"That sounds like a great idea!" Jennifer squealed. "Will there be parents?" Madison asked. I shook my head no because I knew my dad was out of town and my mom would be working. They all agreed that it would be fun. We exchanged numbers and decided on them coming over at 5pm Saturday night. I then continued to munch on a subway sandwich that was delicious. Lunch ended shortly after we I finished my meal.

I looked at my schedule quickly not remembering what class I had next. It was Spanish Honors, which was probably my hardest class. I mean it's a completely different language and I have a short memory span. I was running late because the language building was on the other side of the campus. I entered the class to see only one seat left. I took the seat quickly then looked at the kids sitting around me. I finally got to the person sitting next to me. It was Carter. Of course, it had to be Carter.
