Chapter 19

Akio tried to act a bit more upbeat and positive, but I could tell he was still pretty upset. I was curled up next to him, clinging to his arm. "Stupid school tomorrow." I muttered. Akio glanced out his bedroom window. "And Damion's going to be there." He said. I sighed and nodded. "Maybe he's changed, though? He really sounded like he regretted what he did."

"Just like me." Akio muttered. "Stop it, Akio. It was just a stupid mistake." I said, squeezing his arm tighter. "Yeah, well my "stupid mistake" drove her to kill herself." He growled, the tone of his voice suddenly full of anger. "Just talk to him tomorrow, alright? See for yourself if he's changed. I mean, you said he used to be your best friend, right?" Akio nodded slightly in reply. "Does this just never end?" I wondered out loud. "What do you mean?" Akio asked. "No matter what happens, no matter how many good things happen, no matter how many bad things you overcome, no matter how many battles you fight, there's always another one after that one. It just never ends, does it?" I muttered. "Maybe it doesn't." Akio said. I looked up at him. "Or, maybe it does. You can't ever know if you cut it short. Just remember that." He was still staring out the window. "Can we just end this war, then?" I asked, quietly. "The one where neither of us can be happy?" He finally looked down at me. "I just want to be happy." I continued. "And. . . I'm happy with you, because I love you. So stop beating yourself up, and just give Damion a chance, please." I said, tears welling up in my eyes. "Just let yourself be happy. Let me be happy. Let us both be happy together." Akio wrapped his arms around me and kissed me. "You're right. Just as long as I have you, I'll always be happy." He said. I laughed a bit as I wiped away my tears. "It's so cheesy, though. All of this. But. . . I love it." I leaned forwards and returned the kiss.
