I pulled over into a layby, the fuel gage on the bike teetering on empty. Fuck sake. Dismounting the crap vehicle and wandering over to the grass to sit down, I removed my rucksack from my back on the way. A rest wouldn't kill me I guess.
-
I must have been on the edge of the road for about two hours before someone stopped. A car with three rather attractive males pulled up next to me, I noticed the drivers seat was on the right hand side.
"Ça va?" The one in the passengers seat asked, obviously the best at French. I'm guessing they were on a lads roadtrip. The prankster part of me twisted in my stomach I was gonna tease these boys.
"Non, pas vraiment. Je n'ai plus de gaz et légèrement déshydraté." I replied quickly, letting them know why I was in distress. The boy looked to his friends then back to me, a puzzled look in his face.
"Parler Anglais?" I held in a laugh at his attempted French, bless.
"Non, je ne parle pas Anglais." The boy seemed to understand this and he pulled a face at my answer.
"Problemo? Lentement sil vous plaît." He repeated, letting me know I had to explain to him what was wrong slowly.
I pointed to my bike them signalled the fuel cap and put my thumbs down. "No fuel!" The dude in the back seat yelled, excited by his charades guessing. I pulled a fake puzzled face.
The passenger seat guy smiled. "Non, urm..?" I held in laughter again. The passenger looked at the driver for assistance.
"Non gaz?" The driver questioned, I nodded.
"Heureusement nous avons quelques." The passenger added smiling, his broken french coming across as kind of cute. He turned to the driver. "It's in the boot right?"
"Yeah yeah I'll do it, need a break anyway." The driver replied, turning off the engine and whacking the handbrake on. All the boys climbed out the car, stretching their legs for a second. The driver making his way to the rear of the car.
"Je suis Ed, Sam et Kyle." Passenger seat said signalling to the back seat dude and the driver in turn. I gave them all shy smiles.
"Elizabeth." I watched as Kyle began to fill up the petrol tank.
"Oú vas-tu?" I asked standing up, bits of greenery stuck to my bum. The grass had left marks on my tanned ankles.
"Andorra." Ed replied. "Vous?"
I thought for a second wondering if I should say. I shrugged they seemed like alright lads. "Chamonix."
"I've filled it up enough to get you to the next petrol station, it's just down the road." Kyle said screwing the cap back on the jerry can and walking over to Ed, Sam and I.
Ed nodded at Kyle. I could practically hear his brain working as he began to speak. "Beaucoup de gaz, tu... Urm. Tu finis gaz au garage uh..nous sommes á côtè de le garage maintenant?" He had babbled, I felt him trying to desperately remember his French vocabulary. The poor boy finished the mismatched sentences looking ten times more confused with himself.
I was now laughing at the boys. "Thank you, I appreciate your help." They all just looked at me shocked.
"You can speak English?" Sam asked stunned. I had kept my French accent.
I held my thumb and my finger up "Un petit. Mais it was too much fun." They all joined in my amusement eventually and Ed smiled.
