Your hands rested on the keys of the piano before you, your gaze slowly averting from the sheet music to your frozen hands. You pushed your right thumb down, the sound of a middle c ringing throughout the room.
C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C, B, A, G, F, D, C
Your right hand flew across the keys playing the most basic scale, C major. As you rested your left hand on your lap, you played the scale again, like you were searching for some kind of hidden note. As a middle c sounded again for the 4th time, you sighed hastily as you withdrew your hand, placing it on top of the other.
"Lack of inspiration again?" a voice asked behind you.
You knew the voice. You'd recognize Taehyung's voice any day of the week. Being his housemate (though you were 2 years older than him), you knew his voice by heart. You nodded in response to his question, not bothering to turn around. "Yeah," you said quietly, your gaze fixed on the YAMAHA logo of your grand piano. You heaved a heavy sigh as you stood up from your stool, moving your sheet music from the stand to the side. "I'm heading out. Gonna go for a walk."
Taehyung nodded knowingly. This was something you'd often do when you were uninspired.
Trudging through the busy streets of Seoul, you sipped a cup of coffee you had purchased earlier. You bit your lower lip as your headphones began playing EXO's 'Exodus'. Sighing for what seemed like the millionth time today, you glanced up at the sky before continuing to walk.
"Have you heard about what happened the other day?" a feminine voice asked beside you. Your eyes turned to her―she was talking to another girl, probably her friend.
"You mean that?" the other girl asked, eyebrows raised.
"Yeah. Y'know, the deaths."
The other girl nodded, the word death sending a shiver down your spine. They were talking about the mysterious murders that had been happening recently, victims found dead with a clean and exact circular hole piercing straight through their heart. Fingerprints were never found, and neither were any potential murder weapons. But then again, what kind of weapon is strong and precise enough to create such a clean wound? And what kind of murder scenes lack blood? The corpses were certainly dead and certainly real, though the lack of blood was appalling. Sounds like another one had occurred.
"The police think it's the same person again," the girl continued. "The corpse had the same wound as all the others."
Her friend shuddered, hitting the other's arm lightly. "Can we stop talking about this? It scares me."
"Oh, does it? Sorry."
The conversation ceased at that point, as the two girls were washed away by the current of people. The topic of those deaths still lingered in your mind, however, making you wonder what type of creature could keep such a consistent streak of murders of such a precise and specific method. No matter how you think about it, it was impossible. It was a one shot, one try situations. Where if you messed up, it was over. And then you thought about who could be behind it all. What kind of person can get their hands on such a weapon? What kind of person was insane enough to go through with these murders, and not leaving a single trace of them behind?
There was one thing you were sure of, and that was the killer can't be human. You've always loved myths and stories, ones about the Demon world being your favorites. You were sure of it. The killer was a demon, if not something more. People often called you a delusional musician, for your 'absurd beliefs' and the way you 'incorporate it into your music.' Though doing so did help you compose some breathtakingly amazing pieces, many people disapproved of it. No matter though, you believed in the things you believed in. Whether that be unicorns, demons, dragons, aliens, anything that may seem completely fictional, you always liked to hold onto that small chance of them being real.
Lost in thought, you were still walking down the street subconsciously, meaning you didn't have too much of an idea where you were headed or where you had ended up. Having found yourself in front of a nearby park, you walked over towards the swing sets and sat down on a swing, propelling yourself back and forth with your feet, one hand gripping the chain and one hand holding your coffee. Humming the tune of K.A.R.D's 'Rumor' as it came on, you sighed as you watched the cloud above pass by.
I wonder if demons are real... you sent to Taehyung after pulling out your phone and slowly typing out your message with one hand.
A couple minutes passed before your phone buzzed with a notification.
tae tae: u haven't mentioned anything about demons in a long time. What brought this up?
(nickname): idk, just overheard some girls talking about a recent murder. yknow, the ones with the circular shot through the heart
tae tae: rlly? there hasn't been many lately. I'm surprised another one came up.
(nickname): same. but it's weird. I was thinking about how draining it must be to keep those murders so consistent. I rlly don't think the killer is human.
tae tae: so you're assuming he/she's a demon? Idk (name), that's pretty crazy
(nickname): ik, but there's always that possibility. I want to believe they're real, but...
tae tae: ik how you feel but the world doesn't believe it
tae tae: ah i gtg
tae tae: ttyl (name)
(nickname): cya tae
You sighed as you tucked your phone away in your pocket, downing the last of your coffee. Groaning as you stood up, you tossed your coffee cup in a nearby trashcan and went home, still a bit uninspired. And then you spotted him. A tall man, around 170 cm or so, leaning against a tree looking across the play structure with a blank expression. You squinted. He had pale skin that looked smooth as silk, mesmerizing chocolate brown eyes and black hair. And not to mention his perfect doll lips. He was wearing ripped denim jeans, a striped t-shirt, and tennis shoes. Both his ears were pierced, and he had silver ring earrings on.
Gosh, he was good-looking as hell. And then his eyes turned to you, the two of you making eye contact. You blushed slightly after you noticed, giving him a small wave of apology and looking away. He caught you staring. He eyed your figure as you rushed away, cheeks tinted red. He narrowed his eyes, his right hand slowly moving to his left shoulder, the scars that show he's a demon. Who was that? She was staring at me.
With each thought, his glass heart pulsated, the blood inside splashing about. A sharp pain could be felt on the back of his neck―his Demon Mark. His hand instinctively flew to his neck, him grimacing in pain. He exhaled sharply, slowly removing his hand from his nape as the pain subsided.
He sighed as he shoved his hands in his pockets. What the fuck was that?
He glanced towards the direction you had went. He had a feeling he would see you again soon, though as a target.
