"A date, huh?"
When Ren had asked me out just now, I couldn't lie and say it caught me off guard. I was totally expecting it. After all, someone as outward as him was bound to ask me sooner or later....
Nevertheless it still seemed like it all happened so soon. We had only been "dating" for a week now and all we'd really done was fight about how to approach club advertisement. Even though we fought, he was really being so sweet, honestly, to help me out since he knew it was all so important to me to see it come to fruition. He really got some points from me there, but he'd better be glad he's so charming. Strangely enough, I hadn't been thinking about breaking up with him quite yet. It felt wrong to be dating him just so he could help bring in more club members, but I was really desperate.
And surprisingly, Ren wasn't so insufferable that I regretted the decision, either. In fact, I felt more at ease with him by my side being so considerate of my feelings and being so gentlemanly. I hadn't felt so happy to not open a door for myself in a long time....or ever!
I felt pretty bad about it, but of course I had to refuse Ren when he asked to go out on a date! Just for now. I had to focus on the club first before anything else. All I needed was one more member, and--
"Hinageshi-San! Wait up!"
I turned around, surprised to hear my name. Ren and I had stayed during lunch and late after school today to accept any club applications. It was pretty late now, so anyone who was at school was most likely involved in the after school activities.
Sumire Watanabe lightly jogged over to me, her school bag in one hand and waving her free hand frantically. She was smiling and her hair was pulled into a tight, perfect ponytail with a headband around her head. When I took note of her outfit I realized she had probably been at some sort of practice.
I immediately felt dismayed at the realization. She definitely wouldn't have time for the Flapp club if she was already in one!
As much as I would have liked a girl with a gorgeous flower name as apart of my club, I already had Hinata and Ren. I hid my disappointment behind a smile and waved back. I was a bit surprised she was actually speaking to me. Despite being one of the prettiest girls in school, she was rather shy. I only saw her speaking to a few people at a time and usually it was just because of group work.
"Hi, Watanabe-San. You're after school pretty late. Are you in a club?"
Sumire caught up with me and smiled back really sweetly. She really was gorgeous. People liked to compare us all the time but in every way possible I thought she was better. Not just in looks and intelligence but her patience and kindness toward everyone.
"Mm...something like that. The tennis club."
I felt my stomach twist at her reply. The tennis club. The same club that Chise was apart of.
But before I could be overcome with painful flashbacks I had suppressed by focusing on the club, Sumire hurriedly pulled out a familiar piece of paper from her bag.
It was a completely filled out Flapp club application form!
