And what a perfect day to stay home it had been.
I tried so hard to speak to Ren, but he'd ignore me and keep walking. His silence made me feel like he was becoming farther and farther away. Crowds of girls started to surround him everywhere he went, encouraged by the painfully obvious tension between us.
Hinata and Sumire were being talked about excitedly by the majority of the student body, however. I was a senior in high school and it was still beyond me how bored students would get that they would use other people's lives as a way of entertainment.
I had no idea what to do. I was hopelessly stumped, and unbearably lonely and guilty. Those didn't make for a very good overall mix.
B O O M!
I break away from my thoughts momentarily, interrupted by the sound of thunder rattling the windows next to me. The students and I jumped in alarm and turned to look outside at the darkening skies.
"Mmm, geez, I didn't even know it would rain today..." I pouted. That meant after school activities would be cancelled. Although I wouldn't get to see Hinata and Sumire, this also meant I wouldn't have to see Ren and force myself to conduct a strenuous meeting. If he had chosen to go today in the first place.
I heave a sigh and turn back to look ahead at my teacher as he asks us to ignore the storm and continue with the lesson. The thunder rumbles on, though, eventually becoming a violent, windy and rainy mess.
When school ended early for the day, I was preparing to head home when I stopped in my tracks. The Flapp Club garden was currently vulnerable to the storm! I had to get out there and cover them up if I didn't want a whole month of hard work to go down the drain!
I rush out of the building and into the wind and rain, hissing as I'm drenched from head to toe almost immediately. The cold water mixed with the freezing air drops my temperature, causing my teeth to chatter. Every inch of me became uncomfortably soaked, but I made it quickly to the club's designated area for gardening.
I should really remember to bring an umbrella.. I thought this as I ran into the greenhouse for the protective covers. I rushed back outside and fought with the wind to pin them down over the plants and flowers.
Ren keeps his umbrella in his locker so he never forgets it...
I let out a curse when a strong gust of wind sent the cover flying in the air to land on the ground a handful of feet away. I gritted my teeth, standing to my feet and heading back over to grab it.
The moment I knelt down to grab it however, I felt warm tears running uncontrollably down my cheeks. At first I couldn't tell if they were tears or rain, but my trembling body and sobs were proof enough that I was, in fact, crying.
