"Ava, stop that!" Alisha screamed at me as I continued to leave the gaming party. She always hated when I did that.
I let out a menacing laugh, "Never!"
"Wait, is that Shaw?"
I dropped my phone turning to see, I wanted to tell him about this book I had read. But no one was there. It was now Alisha's turn to let out a menacing laugh. She had grabbed my phone and waited until the game started before giving it back.
I took my phone back begrudgingly. I knew she was going to say something about that, eventually . Or she'd wait until it killed me inside to know that she knew and I'd confess to her. Either way, she was going to get her way.
It was already lunch. Art and World Issues had gone by as usual. Today was also Tuesday, which meant I had COY after school. I was excited to see Shaw again, though we'd seen each other yesterday at another Tribune meeting to start the second edition of the newspaper. This time I was writing about the effects of technology on family and New Years resolutions since the newspaper would be published in the New Year.
Fourth period came by sooner than later, and I was alone, as usual. I took out my notebook and decided to start writing one of the articles. I chose to do the resolution one because I already had a clear idea about what it was going to be about. The resolution one didn't focus so much on making it but rather, the fact that you didn't have to wait until the new year to become a better person. I saw that as an excuse to wait it out, but as they always say, old habits die hard.
I was scribbling away until I heard someone calling for me, I turned to see Rosa and Henry. I had met Rosa last year in English and her quirky personality convinced me that she was those one of a kind people you meet. I had known Henry since Grade 9 where we had met in Broadcasting. He was definitely introverted but after we had French together in Grade 10, we became really close. He loved Marvel just like I did, which was something that helped break the walls down when we were getting to know each other.
"Ava, I haven't seen you in such a long time! Mind if we join you." Rosa exclaimed.
"Yes, of course! I miss being in English with you."
Rosa agreed and two sat down. Henry hadn't said anything yet, and I knew something was up.
"Henry, you good?"
He looked over at me, "Yeah, just thinking that I might've made a mistake on a test I had today."
I scoffed, "Dude, I doubt that. You're really smart. Just [...] try not to overthink it, okay?"
He smiled, "Okay."
We spent the period catching up and updating each other about our lives. It had been a while since we had sat together. We were laughing more than talking, probably because of the hysteria of having finally found the time to get together. But then it got all serious.
"Ava, do you have philosophy?" Henry enquired, with a serious look on his face.
I thought back to what was on my schedule, "I do, yeah."
"Good, drop it."
I was taken aback, "Why?"
"I hate the teacher's guts. He is so [...] full of himself. He doesn't care about his students, and all talks about is his cat. Dude, he had a picture of his damn cat on the screen today, as if any of us really thought that a cat would be a good luck charm. Let me tell you something, there is so much work and his tests are like exams. Oh, and he's a hard marker."
I had forgotten that they had taken philosophy and that Shaw was the teacher who taught it, "You're talking about Mr.Shaw, right?"
"Yeah, ugh even his name makes me cringe." Henry was fuming. If it wasn't already evident, he despised that class.
