I strolled into school, more tired than usual. It was the first day back from winter break and boy was I not ready to have to wake up this early. We all know by now that being on time to Art was like mission impossible for me, hence why I strolled into ten minutes after the anthem.

I said hello to Mr.Walker and headed to my desk, Alisha and Mia were already there. The start of the new year meant a lot of things, but in terms of Art, it meant the start of our monthlong exam. What we had to do was make a fifth art piece related to our theme but in this case, our class had been chosen to make art pieces celebrating Black History month which was next month. Today was merely the "trying to stay awake whilst trying to make it seem like I was doing something useful" day since it really was the first day back. However, I did have COY after school that's something I had been eagerly looking forward to.

I realized that during the break, it was just odd not having Shaw around. I mean things would happen in my life and the first person I could think of talking to was Shaw but I'd have to wait for the end of the break. I guess it was frightening to me, I never really thought I'd feel the way I did for anyone, but along came Shaw and everything changed. Was it weird that I wished that I could spend New Years, no.... well maybe it was but truth was, I was starting to find it extremely hard to think of my life without him in it.

World Issues was rather interesting. Today we were watching our skits, and a lot of groups had done an amazing job. Our skit was the last to be shown, and well, I guess I was nervous. Typically in my skits, I took a very light approach but with this one, we chose to make it more serious and so the biggest challenge was being stoic whilst recording it. Nevertheless, my group did amazing, I admired the two drama students because their love for acting was showcased in their performances.

Lunch was normal, we didn't do much but rather, caught up on life. We hadn't gotten a chance to meet over the break because of our busy schedules so seeing the gang back together again, was a sight for sore eyes!

A topic of discussion were our university applications. Over the break, we had to finalize our decisions and submit our applications. I had gotten mine done on Sunday and had applied to three different universities. Personally, I wanted to move out and stay on campus but chances were, I'd have to stay somewhere close.

"Ava, have you submitted yours?" Mia enquired, since I was the only one who hadn't completed it before the break.

"Yup, I even got a response." I said excitedly.

"Where?!?" Alisha exclaimed.

"Trent University." I was really excited to tell them, since I found it a pretty big deal that I even made it to this point.

They all cheered and embraced me, hugging me tightly whilst completely forgetting that I needed air. I wheezed as I could feel my bones being crushed in their embrace, "guys..."

They let go, while Ada commented, "That's really good! When did you submit your application?"

"Sunday."

Their mouths dropped, while Mia looked starstruck, "How did you get a response in two days and I haven't gotten anything yet."

"Maybe Trent has a faster process since not many people apply to it."

Alisha nodded in agreement, while Ada asked, "What program did you apply for and where?"

I tried thinking back to my applications, "Well, for each university, I applied for their philosophy and history program. I submitted an application for English Philosophy and History for Trent University. The other universities were York, Brock. Oh and Guelph Humber because my mom wanted me to apply there."
