Chapter 13: Die Kuh sprang über den Mond.
The next morning I was eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch with Sam.
She hasn't gone home in two days and I am starting to get a tad concerned.
She seems to be okay, as jolly as ever but I don't know.
You don't just, not go home, something has to be keeping you from it.
Sam looks up from her bowl, "what?" She asked smiling.
I blinked, I hadn't realized I was staring.
"Nothing, um.."
"Amber. What is it?" She pokes my nose.
I didn't want to ask because I was afraid I would hit a soft spot.
Almost all the times I asked her something about her family, the girl would break into tears. I am not trying to be that girlfriend.
I mean friend.
"Why haven't you gone home? Not that I'm kicking you out or anything." I said quickly.
Sam smiled and then shrugged, "I like it here better. I'm with you and no one is telling me how much of a disgrace I am."
Her words struck me.
"I bet your mom misses you." I said carefully.
Sam shook her head, "Nah, its been two days since I've been home, I'll bet she has yet to notice."
I look down at my cereal. I don't want to think the worst, but sometimes that is very hard to do especially when its clear in your face.
I started getting emotional. I could feel the red creeping up my neck and covering my cheeks. I bit my lip back to hold my tears.
Sam got up and walked to my side of the table.
She picked me up, and sat me on her lap.
"Amber, don't worry. I'm fine. My mom and I don't get along, that's true, but its nothing crazy." She caressed my head.
"You promise?" I sniffed.
"Yes love, and if something does happen you'll be the first to know." She held me tight.
"I should be the second one." I wiped a tear.
"Why's that?"
"Because you should call the fucking cops before you come tell me."
Sam laughed and kissed my head.
"Finish your cereal." She told me as she walked to the kitchen.
I did as I was told and texted Crate.
Crate finally came back yesterday and I was dying to see her.
She told me she couldn't pick me up today because she hadn't gotten her car back yet from the airport.
"Sam we gotta take the bus lets go!" I called as I inhaled the rest of my breakfast.
Sam came running out the kitchen with two cookies in each hand.
She giggled as I scolded her for eating sweets in the morning.

"Das."
"Kuh."
"Sprang."
"Zu ende."
"Der mond."
"die Kuh sprang über den Mond."
German was slow today. Slower than it usually is.
Our teacher was out so we had a sub and all she knew how to say was "die Kuh sprang über den Mond." The cow jumped over the moon.
Its been 15 minutes and I am still trying to find out how that information will be useful in life.
Oh that and "Wie lautet dein Name?"
Eventually the sub gives up and lets us chat for the rest of the period.
Well, more like she chatted for the rest of the period.
"When I was in high school, I took this German class too." She looked around as if we were supposed to be impressed.
"Did you really? Please tell us more." One boy said sarcastically.
The class laughed.
"Well, when I was your age I sat right there. Oh there was this boy, James Hudson. He was mighty fine. He always knew what Ms Bennie was saying." She yakked.
Ms Bennie is our actual German teacher who I seriously wished was here right about now.
The girl gasped, "You guys wanna know what I had for dinner?"
That is when I stopped listening.
I put my hood over my head and laid my head down on the cold desk.
I eventually fell asleep.
I dreamed of many things. All the images were distorted.
I dreamt of Sam and my parents.
I miss them.
I dreamed of German cows.
I dreamed of Crate, and I saw Abe.
The dream then turned. From calm to a tad chaotic.
It got worse every minute.
I was with Sam and Abe showed up. He put a bag over Sam's head and took her away. My screaming wasn't audible.
Abe looked at me with a huge smile on his face.
It then changed and I was with my parents. He took them too.
I was then with Crate. I braced myself for Abe's coming but when nothing happened I relaxed.
Big mistake.
Abe came, and swallowed Crate whole.
I was then in a white room with no doors nor windows.
I touched the wall and ripples went through it like a pond.
I was about to push my hand through it when I heard Abe calling my name.
I turned around and faced him, that smile still painted on his face.
"What do you want Abe?" I asked him.
He pouted, "I want you to know something." He said.
He stepped closer to me. I didn't move, probably because with my subconscious, I wouldn't have been able to.
Abe suddenly grabbed my throat and stared squeezing it.
"I want you to know, I get what I want, when I want it."
He picked me and then threw me down. I fell right through the floor.
The school bell rang and I jumped from my seat.
I picked my head up and watched as the students emptied the classroom.
I stood, turned, and left in a haste hopping the substitute won't ask me anything.
When I made it outside the classroom I relaxed a bit.
I walked to my locker who already had a Crate standing next to it.
She embraced me and asked me if I was okay.
"You look like you just finished crying." She said.
"I'm fine, I just woke up." I reassured her.
When I opened my locker a small white paper fell out.
Crate picked it up and unfolded it.
"Um Amber? You might want to take a look at this." She looked at me.
I furrowed my brows up in confusion.
I took the note from her, it read;
I always get what I want, when I want it. Don't fuck with me, my precious doll.
My eyes widened, curse you subconscious.***
