Chapter 20: Barbarians
Amber
"This way!" Alabama whisper yells to me.
I cross the backyard and come up behind her.
The evening to nearing night air blows my hair back.
Amber? Are you escaping?!
Yes with the help of Alabama.
Fun fact! All those servants minus Titi and Doc and couple others actually hate it there and want to leave. But I can't take all of them with me.
I did promise myself though, that I would come back.
Alabama is leading the way as she knows this place better than I do.
She told me to be on the look out for Titi and Phil, another servant.
If Titi catches us she'll drag us back to Abe, but that is after she spends 40 minutes telling us how dumb we are.
But Amber! What about Sam and Crate! You're just going to leave them?!
Would you calm down, I have a plan.
Alabama crosses and ducks behind a long brush of plants.
If we can get to the back gate, she can scan her badge and we can get the hell out of here.
She waves for me to join her.
I run over and crouch down too.
"Crawl along this bush and we'll reach the gate in no time." Alabama smiles.
We start crawling making sure our bums can't be seen.
I dressed back into the jeans and leather jacket and I dressed Alabama in leggings and a hoodie.
I look up the gate is so close I could break out into a sprint and reach.
I hold myself back though because if I stand up and Titi sees me, our entire plan will be for nothing.
Now you're probably wonder how I even got outside.
Alabama took me to where all the servants sleep and reside. Then she pushed me through the window.
"The only window in this whole place that doesn't have bars. Rumor has it Mr Dip got lazy and just didn't put them on."
I am yanked from my thoughts when I hear a loud bang from behind me.
We both stop and turn around.
The front door flew open and all 23 servants came pouring out.
My eyes widened as some entered the backyard.
"Amber, RUN." Alabama stood and took off.
I followed suit.
"THERE THEY ARE."
"DON'T LET THEM ESCAPE!"
These people are acting like barbarians! They couldn't just send one or two people after us?!
"Go on Amber!" Alabama waves for me to pass her so I do. I sprit for the door when something small pierces the back of my shoulder.
I scream and fall to the ground.
Alabama trips over me.
I'm not bleeding, nothing even hurts, I just can't move.
Alabama looks at me.
"They are just numbing bullets, you won't die honey!"
"Alabama go! Get out of here!"
"But what about you?!"
"Alabama if you are not out of here by the time I count to three, go, go back to your son, leave this state, live your life!"
Alabama cries and hugs me.
"One-"
"Oh Amber-"
"Two-"
"There they are!"
"Three!"
Alabama kisses my head and takes off. She scans her card and bolts out the gate.

When the bag is removed from my head I blink my eyes to adjust to the light.
I take a deep breath.
The scent of wet concrete fills my nose.
I look around to see Doc and Titi chatting and Poppe staring at me. Dan is asleep in a chair.
I turn my head and I see the most horrific sight.
Sam and Crate, beat the fuck up, and unconscious.
I practically throw up my heart.
I lunge my body out the chair but I am restrained by the rope that is wrapped tightly around me.
"Sam!" I scream.
The servants look at me.
Sorry I woke you Dan.
"Crate!" I scream some more.
"Would you shut up? I didn't kill them." Doc snickers.
"Sam!" I wiggle under the rope.
Where is he. Where is that asshole.
I stop fighting when I hear footsteps coming down the stairs.
The steps don't stop until they are right in front of me.
"Let me go." I demand.
He laughs, "I'll tell you the same thing I told Samantha, um no?" He laughs again.
He walks over to Doc who hands him a long sliver rod.
He then comes back to me.
"You know, I had to call and tell the host I wasn't going to be able to make it to the dinner party. Do you know why that is?" Abe played with the stick.
"Because I have to deal with all this!" He touches the rod to my side and I scream out. Blue and white sparks sizzle my skin.
He keeps it there until I can't scream anymore.
I am about to throw up when he stops.
I sit the the chair gagging and panting, tears roll down my cheeks.
"Why did you leave, Amber." Abe questions.
I turn my head to him, "because I fucking hate you."
He slaps me.
Abe grabs my face and yanks it towards him.
I look over at Sam and Crate.
Was Sam that close to Crate before?
"Look at me! You don't mean that. You love me don't you Amber." Abe says.
He sounds like he hasn't slept in weeks.
And he looks like he is drained of important nutrients, like sanity!
"Sam and I had sex, and it was amazing." I laugh.
He pushes my face away and presses the sliver rod against my side again.
I scream and cry.
When he stops he walks away.
I look at Sam and Crate who seem even closer now. Maybe the electric shocks are fucking with my vision.
Crate looks at me.
My heart jumps.
She gives me a wink and tells me to hush.
I look at Sam and then back to her.
Crate smiles and nods. She's fine.
I want to start smiling but it'll give everything away.
I then notice that Crate is working on getting Sam's hands untied.
Sam has been backing up this whole time, I knew I wasn't crazy!
Abe comes back to me, "love me yet?"
In your dreams!
Is what I want to say. But If we're going to make it out of here alive, I have to play by the rules for just a little while.***
