Chapter 25: Jackie Chan

Sam

"What don't you understand?"
"Why does she get to be the blue gummy bear?"
"Why does it matter?
"Because what if I want to be the blue gummy bear?"
Crates picks up the blue gummy from the mat and places it between her molars.
She chews and says, "there now no one is more special than any one else."
She takes an orange gummy out the bag and places back in the blue one's spot.
Crate and I have spent the last hour going over the plan to get Amber back.
She was the blue gummy bear by the way. But now she is orange.
I am the red one and Crate is the green one.
"Now pay attention. You and I will go to Mario and ask for jobs, we will get the jobs because he needs workers and he knows it." Crate said.
"But what makes you think he is going to give us the jobs right then and there?"
"I don't know, I'm just kinda hoping he does." She said.
I motion with my hand for her to continue.
"Once we get in, I'll offer for him to leave us to close up, because he's old and would want to go home he'll say sure and remind us to.."
"Turn on the lasers!"
"That's right. Once he's gone I'll shut off all the lights and never turn the lasers on."
"We'll get dressed in black, go to his office, flick the light switch and somehow, find the cameras, take them out and go get Amber."
"And we'll all live happily ever after."
"That's right."
"Wrong! Be prepared for some hand to hand combat, and having a gun pointed at your head." Crate warned me.
I shake my head, "I've been practicing the move you see them do in the Jackie Chan movies where he hits the guy's wrist and his gun goes flying from his hand." I said, confidently.
Crate shook her head and laughed.
"What?"
"That move is fake, Sam. Its in their script to chuck their gun 10 feet away from them. Try watching Law and Order. There is where they do it for real." Crate informed me.
I nod my head, pull out my phone and get straight to work.
"Watch that in the car let's go." Crate grabbed her keys.
"Ugh."
"Yup we have to go get jobs now." She said.

So you know how Crate was making getting a job from Mario sound all easy and stuff?
Well guess what, it is.
The man didn't even think twice. He just said yes and handed us both a tee shirt with the name of the place on it.
We start right away.
"This day, couldn't get any longer." I said as a scrubbed a toilet.
"I know. I just want to get to the fun stuff already." Crate replied from the stall next to mine.
"Fast forward to the part when I knock Abe the fuck out."
"And I embrace Amber."
"And we all live happily ever after." I concluded.
"But soon. We must not rush the process." Crate said.
After we finished for the day, which included, cleaning the bathrooms, mopping the alley ways, shining the bowling balls, being shown how to turn on the lasers, feeding the bowlers, helping the bowlers, and giving back some money because the vending machine took some lady's dollar, I was ready to go the hell home, and sleep.
"Who knew working here would be, so, much!" Crate said.
"Tell me about it. The next little kid to ask for a brownie, I'm just going to shove the mix in their hands tell them to make it. Since they want it so damn bad." I said.
Crate laughed. Mario did not.
"If you want to keep this job, you will not do that." He said.
I once again resisted the urge to roll my eyes, at my boss.
"Of course not." I said.
"Hey Mario. Why don't you head home, Sam and I will lock up. Crate said.
He nodded his head, grabbed his car keys and left.
Like I said, too easy.
"Wow-"
"Don't forget!" He came back and pointed to the ceiling.
"Don't worry I got it." Crate said. She then got up and pretended to walk to the basement.
When he was gone I called her back.
"He drove away?" She asked.
"Yeah, he is completely out of the picture." I answered.
She let out a sigh of relief, "good. Okay I'm going to go turn off the lights outside. You start getting dressed." She said.
"Yes ma'am." I hopped up from my seat and headed for the break room.
In there I have a book bag full of clothes for both Crate and I.
Black pants, black shirt.
Crate came in and said that the lights were off.
I pulled my shirt over my head and passed her the bag.
When we were dressed, Crate turned out all the lights inside the bowling alley. I took my phone and turned on the flashlight.
"Alright let's go." I said.
We made our way to the management office.
Crate flicked the light switch but nothing happened.
She flicked it again.
"No way." She said.
She flicked it off then back on. Nothing happened.
"Was it moved?" I asked.
"That's, I, he?" She flicked it again.
If the hidden wall has been disabled, how are we getting in?
And if we can't get in, how will we get to Amber?
"Crate what do we do?!"
"I'm working on it." She walked over to the wall and felt it.
After a moment she gasped.
"What?" I asked.
"There's a key somewhere." She said turning around.
"How do you figure?"
"A key whole must own a key. Just like a dog must own an owner or a remote must own a tv." She replied.
"Open up all the drawers, dump everything out. We have to find this key." She instructed me.
I don't waste any time and rip out the first drawer in the desk while Crate opens all the books.
"Why are you going through the books?" I question.
"To see if one of these has a page that is hollowed out."
I nod, not really understanding.
So much for this being easy.
