What would a girl do if she was standing in the middle of the cafeteria, staring at the doors that swung back and forth and eventually closing, if you were right beside the most poppular guy in the school. Most girls would have started a conversation, or giggle in some weird way. But they all have one thing in common. If they were in my position, they would have made a move towards him. But the problem was, I wasn't any of those girls. I was different.

I moved away from him to gather my belongings which was still on the table with my half eaten lunch. I packed it all up and looked behind me, in time to see Derek walking towards me. Probably to fetch his things and then hopefully leave. As I placed my half eaten lunch back in it's container and my books inside my bag I looked to my side and saw Derek standing next to me.

"I'm sorry about the other day," I blurted without thought, "I thought you were someone I knew, and... well, I mistook you for someone else,"

Derek looked at me with those eyes that reminded me of all the memories I buried deep down, and suddenly it wanted to re-surface again.

"It's fine," Derek said cooly, "I mean, it was rude of me to act like that. It's just that I had a bad day,"

"What?" Did he just apologized?

"Well it was wrong of me to just brush you off,"

"I should be the one apologizing," I told him earnestly. It might be true that he had been rude to me, but I was the first one to say something. It wasn't his fault really. It was me. I knew it's impossible, but the thought of seeing him again over clouded reality, and I let myself slip.

"Let's just forget about it," Derek said as he extended his hand, "Can we?"

Derek's POV

What the hell did I just said?! I was sure that I planned to say it was alright then leave her with no hard feelings and no guilt that came with it, but no, my hand just has to move on it's accord and I just had to blurt out, "Let's just forget about it." and "Can we?" He thought

He wanted to smack his head in the nearest concrete that he could find. He was always in control, and he wanted to keep it that way, not be all jittery and nervous like somone who had just got their first crush. He knew he wasn't one of those people who go all nervous by the sight of a pretty girl. It wasn't him.

He looked down at his outstretshed hand, and frowned. What's different about her? Derek looked at the girl in question and his frown deepen.

Was he really a jerk at their first meeting? Or did he looked stupid holding his hand up, waiting for her response.

Scarlett looked at him with surprise.

Derek felt self conscious about holding his hand up, and was about to retrieve it when a melodious sound stoped him mid-way. Now it was his turn to look at Scarlet with surprise. Scarlet was laughing and was clutching her stomach. His surprised expression changed into a smile.

Scarlett, seeming aware of Derek's stare, stopped laughing and wiped a tear in her eye. "I'm sorry, it's just that I thought you hated my guts, because of what happened before." She looked at him with her vibrant violet eyes that looked less sad and had a bit more life in them. "To be honest I thought you were a tad bit arrogant,"

Derek arched an eyebrow in question.

"Okay," Scarlett lauged and admitted, "maybe not just a bit."

Derek grinned at Scarlett and said, "I think you are quite right on your first assumption though."

This time Scarlett arched an eyebrow towards him, "Really?"

He shrugged, "Well, yeah. I mean I did found you a tad bit troublesome." He said, mimicking Scarlett.
