Chapter 1: The Promise made under the tree

The day before the accident...

"Adrian!"

Adrian looked up from his book to see two huge violet eyes looking at him. "What do you want?" Adrian asked Scarlett who was now looking through the context of the book.

"I'm here to get what you promised me,"

Scarlett stood up and dragged Adrian's sleeve towards the the car. "Come on, we dont have all day now do we?"

"Wait just a second I need to remember what page I'm in!"

Scarlett let go of his sleeve and quickly snatched the book. "Until you have done what you promised me earlier I'm not definetely giving this book back to you."

Adrian chuckeled, "Scarlett I know youre going to give it to me eventually,"

Scarlett opened the book and threathened to tear away the page, "Okay lets say I might give it back to you eventually, but how do you know that I wont do this?"

Adrian looked at Scarlett, he knew that she wouldnt do it but the look she was giving him made him have doubts. He put his hands up. "I give up,"

Scarlett placed the book inside her red hand bad and took Adrian's hand, "Come on then,"

Adrain squezed Scarlett's hand.

"Oww!"

"That's for taking my book,"

"That hurts you know!" Scarlett told Adrian while rubbing her hand.

Adrian looked looked around the park. It was nice and warm as if it was summer. People were scattered in the roads of the park, lying in the green grass and the birds were chirping. He knew it was going to be a good day.

Scarlett ran infront of Adrian and shouted, "Hey! I'm way ahead of you. Why are you so slow, are you old or what?"

Adrian looked at Scarlett. Scarlett was wearing skinny jeans, a peach coloured top and a black coat. Her long brown hair were in curls. She looked really beautiful with her big violet eyes, but Adrian always thought of her as someone beautiful, who couldnt?

Adrian started jogging towards her and took her hand. They ran towards the car and Scarlett looked at Adrian.

"Why do you look so happy?" Scarlett asked.

"Nothing,"

"Are you planning something or what?"

Adrian led Scarlett towards the a bench that was surrounded by wild flowers. It was as if it never existed. Butterflies were everywhere. He knew this was the perfect setting on what he had planned to do.

"Why are we here? Aren't we going somewhere else and what is the thing that you promised me anyway?" Scarlett asked.

Adrian sat down in the bench and dragged Scarlett to sit down and he held her hand.

"Do you remember when we were little I promised you something?"

Scarlett did remember. It was when they were seven years old. It was winter time and they were walking around the same park they were in and at that time they escaped their house and went on a walk. They walked for an hour or so until they got lost in the forest next to the park. Scarlett was really scared that she might be in danger because she believed there were wolves there. Adrian at that time wasn't really that espressive, the same as now. When he saw how scared she was he told her, "Scarlett you dont have to be scared, I'm here with you."

"Promise you wont leave me?"

"You know I would always stay with you,"

"Promise?"

"I promise I would never leave you alone even if I die I'll always protect you. Okay."

"Okay."

Scarlett looked at Adrian, he was holding both of her hands, his green eyes were bright, showing her tenderness and warmth. She knew he was serious right at this momment. She felt as if she were the most special person right now. She noticed that Adrian wore clothes he wouldn't normally wear. He was wearing a black turtle neck with a black blazer and black pants. He looked as if he was going to say something really important. What could it be? Adrian was really handsome with his ruffled hair, he was well built and tall, but the most thing that always catches her where his bright green eyes that were always so expressive.

"Of course I do," Scarlett told Adrian.

Adrian took a deep breath and told Scarlett to turn and look the other way and she did. He dug into his pocket, and got out the box.

"What are you doing?" Scarlett asked him. He was making her curious.

"Close your eyes,"

Scarlett clossed her eyes and she felt the brush of his finger in her neck and something being placed there. She felt his hands withdraw and she opened her eyes. Scarlett looked down to see a locket that had two doves drawn infront of it. "What's this for?"

Adrian looked into her eyes. "I know were only seventeen but will you wait for me?"

Scarlett was so shocked at his confession that she couldnt believe it. She knew that she love him and all that mattered were him being there next to her. She already knew the answer to his question, "Of course I will,"

"Really?" Adrian asked with a shocked expression.

"Why do you look so shocked?" Scarlett said.

"I couldnt believe you already answered me, that quickly,"

"So is this a confession coming from you Adrian?" Scarlett teased him.

Adrian blushed, "You already answered me so there's no taking it back,"

"Why would I want to take it back?"

"I know you wouldnt because I'm too good to let go,"

Scarlett punched his arm, "Youre too full of yourself,"

"Adrian grinned at Scarlett, "I know I am, and I'm proud of it," 

Scarlett suddenly felt her tears streaming down through her cheeks.

"Hey,why are you crying?" Adrian asked her.

"I dont know,"

Adrian suddenly pulled Scarlett into his arms, as if protecting her from harm.

"You know I dont like you crying,"

"But, I cant help it,"

"You dont have to cry. I promise I would never leave you alone even if I die I'll always protect you."

Scarlett hugged him tightly, she felt safe in his arms."

"You know that locket I just gave you, it has a curse,"

Scarlett looked into his eyes, "What curse?"

"Whoever takes it off first must obey what the other person says until the end that persons life; unless they read to each other the writting inside the locket on where they promised, then the curse will be broken,"

Adrian showed his necklace, it was the same as hers, Adrian opened it. Inside was a piece of long paper, curved to fit inside the locket.

"This is the promise that's made under the tree. Even though I might do things that would hurt you. Always remember that I will always love you. What ever happens our love will always last."

Scarlett was so happy that she cant express it by words. She felt Adrian move closer to her and felt the brush of his lips against hers. She couldn't believe that he has the same feeling as she did. But now she was sure of it. She returned his kiss, that's was how he told his feelings to her. The sun and their promise was their witness.

Scarlett felt so happy that she thought everyday would be blissful and happy. No tears and sadness to come; but she was wrong because the worst thing that could happen, will happen as soon as it came.
