I woke up with a pounding headache. I couldn't see where I was. I looked around as my eyes adjusted to the darkness. The smell of dust and mold filled my nose. I looked around the room to see what seemed like an abandoned warehouse. I struggled to remember how I got here.
"Are you sure you don't want me to walk you home? It's really late."
"It's only 9 o'clock, Pete. I'll be fine," I said kissing my nervous boyfriend's cheek. As I walked away, I looked over my shoulder to see him duck into an alley. I waited a few minutes and saw Spider-Man shoot a web at the light pole and swing away. Smiling to myself, I started my walk home.
When I was halfway there, I could hear a pair of footsteps behind me. I tried my best not to look behind, but I could hear them getting closer. As I was about to turn down a street, two arms grabbed me from behind. I tried to cry for help but a large hand covered my mouth. I struggled to free myself but the man holding me was much stronger. The last thing I remember, before everything went black, was a sharp pain in the back of my head.
"Oh, look! You're awake. Good." A man in jeans, a white shirt and leather jacket walked in the door.
"What do you want?" I spit out, trying not to sound as scared as I actually was.
"What do I want? She wants to know what I want." He mocked, turning towards the men I didn't know were with him.
"What I want, little missy," he laughed. "Is Spider-Man's head." My eyes widened. He was using me to get to Peter.
"I. . . I don't know Spider-Man." I stuttered.
"Really? I have it on good authority that you do," he laughed showing me a picture of Peter, in his Spider-Man suit, and I on my roof. "Plus, you're wide eyes and shaky voice says otherwise." He sneered.
"You see, as soon as he finds that note he'll come to your rescue."
"What note?" I asked.
"The note we left on your fire escape." He sneered.
"He won't fall for that." I said shaking my head back and forth.
"Oh will he? Because I'm pretty sure the "come and get her or we'll kill your girlfriend" will convince him to hurry on over and save you." I put my head down, hiding the tears that were starting to stream down my cheeks.
I could feel myself shaking in the chair as the men who kidnapped me, paced back and forth. After about an hour, the leader started to get angry.
"What is taking him so long?" He yelled kicking a chair across the room. He turned towards me and looked at me with more anger and frustration in his eyes than I have ever seen.
"Maybe, seeing his dead girlfriend on the news will teach that little prick a lesson," he sneered pointing a gun at me.
"Please," I said quietly as tears started to stream down my cheeks again. I gasped when he cocked the gun.
"What do you think he is going to do when he finally gets here and finds you dead?" The leader chuckled making me cringe.
"He's probably going to break down, take your lifeless body in his arms and cry like a baby." One guy laughed.
"Stop," I said between tears.
"No!! My girlfriend!! Don't leave me!! Please!!" Another guy mocked.
"Stop!!" I yelled, fully sobbing this time.
"Then after he sees she is dead, we can kill him."
"If you touch her, it'll be the last thing you do." This new voice came from a pillar by the door. I turned to see Peter in his Spider-Man suit.
"Pet. . . Spider-Man," I corrected myself.
"Oh joy! You did see the note!" The leader cheered. Peter climbed down the pillar and walked towards me. He stopped when the leader loaded his gun and pointed it at me. "I wouldn't take another step if I were you. You do anything and I redecorate the wall with your girlfriend's brain."
Peter looked at my scared expression and even with his mask on I could tell he was looking at me sad and scared. "It's going to be okay, Y/N. I promise." He said softly.
"I wouldn't be so sure." The leader sneered. Before I could register what happened, Peter shot webs at the other two guys.
"Well that was fast," the leader chuckled. Without thinking the man shot Peter, but luckily Peter jumped out of the way. I watched, helplessly, as Peter fought my kidnapper.
Peter got in some hits, but so did the other guy. I couldn't watch my boyfriend get hurt, but I also couldn't look away. Suddenly, the man turned away from Peter, and pointed his gun at me.
"No!" Peter yelled right as the man shot the gun. I screamed as the impact from the bullet made me fall to the ground, still tied to the chair. I couldn't see what was going on. All I could hear was Peter yelling and the man grunting in pain.
Suddenly, I heard Peter calling my name. "Please, baby. Please wake up!"
"Peter?" I said softly. He cut the ropes and caught me before I rolled onto the floor.
"I'm here, baby. I'm here," he said softly as he removed his mask and pulled me into his chest. Suddenly, he pulled away and started scanning my body. "Where did he shoot you? Where, baby?"
"My. . . shoulder," I said painfully. He carefully moved around me so he could look at my shoulder.
"It's not too bad. This isn't going to sound like a good thing, but the bullet went through. Which means all we gotta do is get you stitched up. You're going to be okay, Y/N." My heart sank as he started to sob.
"This is all my fault," he said between sobs. "I'm so sorry. I knew being Spider-Man would get you hurt. I should've. . . I shouldn't have told you. . . You should break up with me. Yes, Y/N. Break up with me. Then. . . Then you'll be safe."
"Peter, no. I'm not going anywhere." He continued to sob as I made him look at me. I put my hand on the back of his neck, pulled him down and pressed my lips to his. When we pulled away, I pressed my forehead to his.
"I love you, Spider-Man."
