GAME 49: AMARANTHINE

*SOPHIE

“what flowers should we get?” tanong ko kay Tony while we rested at our quarters. We’re free till the next hour.

“Tulips? White Rose? Yellow flowers? Daisy?” she mindlessly enumerated with a shrug.

“how about amaranth flowers?”

“do they really exist? If they do, are they available here in the country?” she reclined with her seat as she rotated it to face towards me.

I sighed and slammed to my bed. This is getting harder than it should be.

Nagtawanan kaming dalawa. Gahd, is this the stress of the job dawning? Tomorrow, when we get off work, we should probably grab some rest first and then meet for the planning later.

I was thinking of what things to suggest. What food we should bring, what agenda we should accomplish. Who should we go with. How we should go.

We didn’t realize till we heard the room’s bell ringing that we already fell asleep. Sabay kaming napabangon ni Tony. At napatakbo na rin palabas ng quarters. We hurried to the doctors’ station to see what we should be doing.

“I think Dr. Buenaventura needs you in his office.” Narinig kong sabi ng chief doctor ng department nila Tony.

Uh-oh. Is she in trouble?
mabilis namang pumunta si Tony sa office ni Dr. Buenaventura.

“Sophie,” tawag sa akin ni Simon na kadarating lang, “I think it’s time for your rounds.”

“wow. Were you promoted as our department’s head or are you suddenly my walking PDA organizer?” I chuckled.

He chuckled as he sat at the counter. “just go, Sophie.” He smiled.

Kinausap ko ang nurse na natira sa nurse’s station to check which patients I should attend to, and baka rin kasi may iniwan ang mga senior doctors na homework or whatnots.

“you’re mostly in the pediatric department today, doc.” Sabi ng nurse with a smile. “and a little in the cancer institute.” She gave me the clipboards I need.

“thank you.”

And I made my way to my assignments. i read her name again. She’s been the one I’ve been keeping close watch since she entered the hospital. Sophie. Her name is Sophie, just like me. and she has a twin sister. I’ll save her for last before I transfer to the cancer institute. For now, I will just meet the other patients. :)
