"We are punished by our sins, not for them."

9th of July, 2017

I awoke. I felt something soft underneath my body as something was drawn over my shoulders. My eyes felt painful as I opened them, the room was in blurs as pushed myself off from the bed. The duvet fell from my shoulders revealing my bare chest and stained skin, I felt a cold wind brush against me as I looked around the room. My shirt was neatly folded upon a chair as were my trousers with my shoes near the legs, I rubbed my eyes as the curtain was pushed gently by the breeze revealing the brightness of the midday sun. I threw the duvet away from myself as I looked down and was relieved to notice that I was wearing boxers.

I stood up, my feet felt weak and my legs heavy as I fell back on to the bed. I shook my head as I couldn't steady myself, a muffled version of Katy Perry flowed in to the room. Lifting myself up once more, I lent on the bedside table keeping myself upright as I reached for my shirt. Pulling it up around myself I left the buttons undone, as I pulled the trousers up from around my ankles. "Are you awake?" Emily's voice shouted over the music. I frowned as I zipped up and began to do the buttons up on my shirt.

I waddled over to the door, placing my hand on the door knob I twisted it as pulled the door open. The smell of bacon hit me, she called out to me once more, "Do you want some?" She looked over in my direction as she moved the food within the pan. I moved out of the doorway and nodded - taking her up on her offer. "I don't think I have actually seen you eat once," She turned the oven off as I sat down at the kitchen bar. Looking at me she smiled, "How are you after last night's events?"

"I never would have agreed to it if this is how you feel afterwards," I admitted as she plated up the large breakfast. "I can see that you do it often."

As she turned she had a death glare, "You are making me sound like an alcoholic, which I am not." She laughed it off as she handed me a plate. It held sausages, eggs, bacon, toast and beans. I smiled as I took a deep breath, smelling the intoxicating food. "So in heaven you can't drink, you don't really eat, yet you have phones?" I nodded, lifting up an egg and taking a quick bit from it. "You look like you are enjoying that though, and you must have drunk before because you lasted a while."

I nodded as she handed me a glass of water, "When I was in New York, before the accident - I guess. Me and Wes would regularly go down with a few other angels and drink ourselves stupid well I haven't in a while because we have been monitored a lot by the higher-ups." She sat beside me, her vest top hugging her torso as her baggy jeans gave her the look of comfort.

"You said you killed demons during that accident," I slowed down as I scooped up the beans. "What actually happened?"

Looking at her I frowned, she was so curious. Am I comfortable enough to tell her? "Emily, I was with a group. We were out drinking, when we were ambushed by demons. We were even careful enough to undo our cloaking so the humans could see us too, to try and hide from demon eyes," I took a swig of the water as the song changed. "We were cornered by five and there were five of us, you would think that's good odds but we can't kill demons. They killed each of them off one by one, leaving me. I hadn't drunk as much as usual so I can still remember it like it was yesterday."

I put my fork down as I looked down at the glass that had condensation running down the side, "I felt something, the ground it shook below me. Causing electricity to surge from around me, and making the demons fry the ones who were close enough. Then I fried. When I came too I was alone, surrounded by my dead brothers and two demons."

She placed her hand on my arm, her eyes saddened by what she heard, "What happened next?"

I shook slightly as I remembered the feeling, of walking through the halls of the campus, and being called the Angel Killer. "I was blamed for their deaths, and became an outcast."

Pushing away my plate I stood up from the seat and headed towards the bathroom, "Is it okay if I shower?" I ask. She nodded as she placed the fork of food within her mouth, "What's the plan for the rest of the day?"

"We are going shopping!"

After my shower she had forcefully dragged me out of the apartment and in to the busy high street that was located outside her front door. We walked casually as she talked to me, unaware of the concerned faces of others. "What do you want for dinner? Like now you have had something surely you would want to try something for dinner," She looked back at me, I smiled nodding at her words. "Good, Okay! I vote Chinese."

A small girl walked past us both, with her hand around her mothers, "Why is that lady talking to herself?" Her mother disciplined her silently as she walked away from Emily.

Emily turned back at me with an upset look on her face, "I made a weak enchantment, who knows what people would say about me if I didn't." I laughed as she turned quickly.

Pulling out her phone from her bag she began to type, her feet moved forwards as did mine. My phone buzzed in my pocket, as I pulled it out I noticed she had stopped texting. I frowned as the message was from her, "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

Looking at her in disbelief I quickly responded, "How did you even get this number?"

"I got it whilst you were passed out." I looked up from my screen and saw her looking back at me with a cheeky smile. "Do you wish you were human?" I pondered the question she had asked, did I?

As I questioned my being I saw something move within my view, I placed the phone quickly in my pocket as I touched her shoulder causing her to stop. "It's not safe." To the east was a demon, his eyes locked on Emily. Bending down I whispered in her ear, "Follow me." She nodded as I walked in front of her.

I walked swiftly in and out of the crowds of people, turning back to make sure Emily was there constantly. We had gained a fair distance between us, but he hadn't made a move on them which was peculiar. "We have to flush him out." I stated as I walked in to an alley way, I grabbed Emily.

Our bodies were pushed up against one another, within the tiny pathway. "Sorry." I whispered as I watched around us for the demon. She nodded, I felt her hair brush against my chin as I couldn't help but heat up at our proximity. I felt something dark appear to the side of us, it is strange to describe but it smells of death and ash burnt.

As a demon moved in from our right to the opening in the alleyway, the one I saw in the streets moved in from the left, a smile appeared from ear to ear on their sinister faces. "So this is how they get their humans to heaven now, by seducing them?" one hissed, I tensed up.

Closing my eyes I outstretched my arm, Wes let's hope your training came in handy. I felt electricity form within my hand, opening my eyes I looked at the demon to the right and let the current escape my hold. As it met the demon's dark soul, I pushed Emily towards the opening. Shielding her body as the remaining demon cast a large shadow over myself, creating a fist I felt a flicker of voltage surge through my arm. I smiled as the demon rushed towards me, his face full of anger. Holding my arm out straight I felt his body pierce as it met my electrified hand.

The shadow that had casted was now gone, Emily looked around my broad shoulders as could see the demon as he hung from my grasp. I let my arm hang, as he slipped and turned in to ash. "Emily, get back." I spoke standing back from the disintegrating body. Pulling out my phone I dialled the number One.

The systematic voice addressed me, "Matthias the light, what is your emergency?"

"Two demons attacked myself and my mortal," I looked at Emily and smiled, I could see the fear plastered upon her face. "One is dead, the other is still alive...barely." I stated.

"Well done, we will send someone over soon," the voice congratulated me. "Leave the area." The phone rung out, a single tone. I placed the phone in my pocket as I sighed, Emily was visibly shaken from the encounter.

"Emily, do you want to go home?" I asked her, she looked up at me her black eyes glossy. As she nodded I extended my hand to her, "Don't worry your safe now." She took my hand.

You are safe, I promise.
