25th of July, 2017.

I felt the rays of the sun against my skin as I woke up, my body felt heavy as I was laying across a double bed. It felt familiar, the softness it was almost like I was floating - then the pain came. It moved quickly upwards, ripping my wounds apart as I cried out unable to move.

"Matt!" it was her, her voice echoed within my ears as I opened my eyes. She stood in the doorway her eyes locked on to mine, "You-you're okay." She whispered as she smiled widely. I stared at her in disbelief, how was I here? Why was I here?

She walked over as I winced at the pain that attacked my back, "I was on the balcony, then you fell from the sky." She said softly. I groaned as I recalled what happened. My wings. Fuck. "When I pulled you up..I saw the marks, What happened?"

I shook my head as she doused my back in alcohol making me shout out in pain, it felt unbearable. "I was clipped," I felt her pat the liquid with cloth causing it to stick to the open wound. "I broke the law, and this is what happens." I tried to gesture but failed as I hung my head over the bed.

"What law did you break?" I shrugged in response, unsure of what to say.

"Many things," I felt her pull it away like a plaster before asking me to sit up. "How long have I been out?"

"A few days," she commented as I sat before her, my scarred back on show. "I hadn't been able to cover it properly since so it hasn't healed that well." I nodded to her words. "Matt, are you okay?"

I paused, unsure of how I actually felt. I had always been an outcast, this just means I am now a wingless outcast. "I honestly am not sure." I could feel her hand on my shoulder as she finished wrapping my torso. "I mean, would you be happy if your wings were scythed off?"

She looked at me with horror as I explained the process, all she could say was, "I am so sorry." She blamed herself for what had happened, but to me it wasn't her fault at all. It was my choice, if anyone was to be blamed it would be me. "I had put on some soup, would you like some?" I nodded as she walked out of the room towards the kitchen.

I placed my feet on the floor, the coldness of the wooden floor caused me to wince. Taking a deep breath I pushed myself up, beginning to stand. I felt my body become heavy, as I swayed. Trying to find my balance I lifted up my arms, "I am hopeless without these wings." I laughed slightly before falling on my arse.

"Matt?" she shouted out. Her voice filled with concern.

"I am okay! I just can't walk right now," I smiled as she walked in with a bowl of soup. "The loss of my wings seem to have made me lose my balance."  She nodded in agreement as I looked up at her. She was as messy looking as always, her hair tied back by a small scrunchy whilst her jumper was tucked in to her pyjama shorts. I couldn't help but laugh as she handed me the boiling soup bowl.

"Matt, did you want to be human?" She asked as she ate the tomato soup.

"Honestly, I didn't. Humans to me were just a job, I didn't want to become just a job. Then I met the half-demon, I think that's why I turned out human," She laughed as I took a sip of the factory soup. "Do you wan't to be fully human, to no longer see the other world?"

She paused her eyes staring down at the bowl, "Yes, I'd be able to see you then as well." I nodded as she smiled at me.

"Emily," I breathed, placing the bowl down I smiled. "I can take away the demon half, I know a way. You'll lead a normal life."

She smiled, worry on her face. "Why are you saying that?"

"I can't protect you, they aren't sending down any more guardians. I was your last one," I sighed as she watched me. "Emily, listen. You won't be protected by god anymore. The last thing you can do is get rid of your demon half."

"H-how do I do that?"

"It isn't something you do. I do it."
