"Turn to page 385 in your textbooks!" Professor Flitwick said happily. The full moon had come and gone, resulting in a very tired and very irritated Kelsey. She frowned at the professor and opened it slowly. "Today we will be learning the blah blah blah blah ...."
Kelsey tried to stay focused and ended up falling asleep on her open book, wand in hand. This was one of her classes that she shared with Slytherin, so Arthur and Karkat were there to try to help her stay awake. Karkat was, however, poking her lightly on the cheek. "Squishy. Shqooshy. Squishy Shqooshy cheek." He chuckled. Professor Flitwick noticed the lack of Kelsey's small broom and dustpan moving and cleaning up the small pile of dirt of her desk.
"Miss Hamilton!" Professor Flitwick exclaimed. Kelsey's hand automatically moved making the broom move perfectly on its own to sweep up the pile of dirt on her table. But her eyes remained closed. "Miss Hamilton, I would appreciate it if you remained awake during my class."
She didn't respond, eyes still closed. Karkat used a slight shock to wake her up. She yelped and glared at Karkat, who smiled innocently. "Of course sir." She said to the short professor, smiling at him apologetically.
The second time she fell asleep was during potions. She and Christine had already made their potion and she put her head on her hand while she waited, fingers drumming against the table. Then, the tapping slowed a bit. It gradually decreased in speed and eventually stopped. Professor Snape had just finished grading the group next to theirs potion, walking over. Christine was nudging Kelsey and had been for the past ten minutes.
Snape sneered at the sleeping girl, noticing the scratches peaking out from under the sleeve of her robe and collar. He also noticed the dark black bags under her eyes. Deciding to just ignore it, he went to grade the potion. "Well Miss Saclici, you did a good job perfecting the potion."
"Kelsey did the adding of the ingredients. She seems like she had a rough night, so I was surprised it turned out so well." Christine said, trying to make sure the girl didn't get in trouble. Snape nodded.
"Tell her that she needs to see me after class." He sneered giving the sleeping girl another once over. Christine nodded and waited for professor Snape to go back to grading other students potions. The class ended, signaling that it was time for lunch.
"Hamilton. Haaaamilton." Christine poked Kelsey. Kas chuckled and walked over. "Goodman. What brings you over this way?"
"Hello Saclici. I'm here to wake up Kelsey." He said pulling out his wand. He muttered something and Kelsey yelped. "Morning sleeping crazy." Kas said, making Christine laugh.
"Oh Merlin, I fell asleep, didn't I?" Kelsey sighed rubbing the bags under her eyes. "Sorry Christine, I left you to stir the potion by yourself."
"No, no, it's fine. Professor Snape wants to see you, by the way. He told me to tell you when you woke up." She said gesturing to where Professor Snape was grading the essays from last week. "Goodbye Hamilton. Goodman." She nodded to Kas before leaving.
"Do you want me to wait outside?" He asked her making her shake her head.
"I don't want to keep you from Karkat for too long. I'll meet you guys there." She winked, her hair changing a light pink. Kas blushed a deep shade of red and waved goodbye. "Run Goodman! Your lover won't wait forever!" She grinned and then sighed realizing how tired she was.
"Miss Hamilton, please come over here." Kelsey jumped a bit forgetting that she was supposed to be doing something. She nodded and walked over. Pulling up a chair she took a seat. "Did you take the potion?" She nodded. "Did you go to Madam Pomfrey?" She nodded again. "Why didn't you stay in the hospital wing Miss Hamilton?"
"People would start being able to connect the dots, sir." She said as if it were tea they were talking about instead of being found out. "I had to come today. It would seem suspicious if I didn't." Snape stared at her a bit. He waved his hand as a dismissal, but found she was still sitting in front of him.
"Yes, Miss Hamilton?" Snape drawled not looking up.
"Did you know my parents?" She asked him nonchalantly. Snape looked up raising an eyebrow. "I mean, I think they were older than you."
"No, not well. Yes they were older. They were three years older." He said returning to his important task of grading. "They weren't in Slytherin, so I did not socialize with them."
"Ah. I wonder who my god parents are. I haven't asked the old man about it. I mean Professor Dumbledore. Sorry." She corrected, remembering she wasn't supposed to call Dumbledore old man.
"Couldn't you have just found out by looking back in time?" Snape said in a bored manner. She made a face that looked like a mix between realization and embarrassment.
"Oh yeah. Why didn't I think of that?" She muttered the last part lowly, as though she was scolding herself. "Lovely talk professor. See you soon." And she walked to lunch.
Professor Snape sighed and focused on the essays in front of him. "Just like Black and Lupin."
Kelsey walked into lunch, only to be bombarded by questions from Kas and Karkat. Jackson was trying to be the voice of reason while Amanda watched amused. Arthur surprisingly, wasn't at the table. Kelsey answered there questions calmly, telling her 'mom' (Kas) and her 'dad' (Karkat) to calm down. "Hey Manda. Whatcha eatin?"
"Sandwich. Ham and cheese." The darker skinned girl replied casually, taking another bite of her sandwich.
"Hey where's Arthur? Usually he's one of the first ones here." She asked looking at her friends. Kas stood up and looked around. Eventually his eyes widened and he sat down quickly. "Kassy? What's with the face?" Kelsey asked teasingly, looking around. When she saw what Kas had seen, she froze, eyes wide. "Well. That was a justified reaction to what I'm looking at."
Arthur was spoon feeding Celina some soup. She grinned slyly in their direction, sensing Kelsey's gaze. She leaned in and placed a kiss on Arthur's lips making the boy kiss back. Kelsey turned back towards the table, not angry, but confused. She grabbed a sandwich and ate it slowly. Jackson started to stand up but Amanda held him down. Karkat looked murderous leaving Kas to be the logical thinker and review the facts in his head.
He looked at Arthur and back at Kelsey. Back and forth until he was slightly dizzy. "But it doesn't make sense. He just-but he- I just don't understand." Kas stuttered. Kelsey finished her sandwich and left the Great Hall. Kas was still muttering while Karkat was preparing a hex. "Karkat what shade are his eyes normally?"
"Blue. Why does that matter?" He growled. Kas stared at Arthur's eyes, his own eyes becoming like the peregrines. He shook his head, puzzled.
"That is not the Arthur we know." Kas mumbled. "His eyes are a dark purple. If that is him, he's under the influence of some love potion."
"Are you sure?" Jackson asked, Amanda had gone after Kelsey, leaving the boys free to plot.
"Positive. The problem is, I don't know which one." The boys narrowed their eyes slightly. "We'd have to have a 'cure' for all of the more accessible love potions."
"Where would we get that many potion cures?" Jackson exclaimed. The boys suddenly looked towards the teacher table at the only empty chair left.
"Professor Snape!"
