Chapter Thirteen - Bubby

I couldn't think. I couldn't breathe. All I knew was...I liked it. Lou was a great kisser. His hand went under my chin as he tried to force my mouth open. I pulled back, covering my lips in surprise and humiliation. Lou sighed and leaned back in his chair, rubbing his thumb against his chin, staring right at me.

     "Oh my God," I mumbled.

      "Char--"

"OH MY GOD." I grabbed my car keys, knocking over my frapp. I debated on cleaning it up but I stormed off instead. Dave could go fuck himself.

I scurried to my Buggy and climbed inside. I immediately began to cry, shaking frantically. I grabbed the wheel and slammed my head on it repeatedly. As Parkles beeped, I spotted Lou run outside and towards the car. He jumped in before I could lock the door. I slowly sat up, breathing heavily. I could barely see from the tears.

"How could you, Lou? You're his best friend..." I croaked. Louis sighed, rubbing his eyes.

"I guess I've always wanted you enough to not even care what Harry thinks. I had to let you know somehow," he whispered. I bit my lip nervously.

"How long?" I asked, my voice cracking.

"Ever since that one night when we went out for dinner, when we first met. I couldn't stop thinking about you..." he confessed, cracking a small smile.

"You were still with Eleanor," I stated. He nodded and developed a sudden interest in his fingers, refusing to look at me.

"Yeah. I loved her, but...four years with someone can be a bit too long." he admitted.

"But you didn't want to marry her?" I questioned. Lou shook his head.

"I'm only twenty two, love. I'm not finished having fun yet," I couldn't help but smile. It was so like him. He was like Peter Pan, never wanting to grow up.

"I love him, Lou..." I finally whispered. Louis sighed and looked up at me.

"I know." He gave me a sympathetic smile.

"I don't want this to ruin our friendship. I mean, besides Andy, you're like my best friend..." Lou's smile melted and his eyebrows knit in concern.

"Hey, look at me." he whispered, lifting my chin with his finger. Tears escaped my eyes as I stared at him. He smiled softly, his nose crinkling a bit, wiping my tears with his thumb.

"Please don't leave me, Lou..." I sobbed quietly.

"Charlotte, I am never going to leave you, love." he assured me. I nodded in response and he pulled me close into a tight hug, kissing the top of my head. "I promise."

I buried my head in the crook of his neck and breathed in his warm scent. I recognized it immediately; Armani Black Code. Lou smelled really nice; it was comforting. I knew being this close to Louis, both physically and emotionally, was wrong. Really wrong. But I couldn't help myself. He was so warm and homey. I felt like I could sit there forever and he'd keep me safe.

I quickly pulled away while I could still control myself.

"Shall we go visit Taylor now?" he asked softly. I nodded and wiped my cheeks.

"Yeah, that seems like a good idea," I said, laughing a bit. I turned Parkles on and we drove to the hospital in silence. As we walked through the glass doors, Lou's hand found its way towards mine and our fingers laced together. I didn't pull away.

"Hey Charlotte!" Jane, the lady at the front desk, called. I gave her a warm smile and waved with my free hand.

"Hey Jane," I said, signing in for both Lou and I.

"Where's Harry?" she asked, eyeing Louis suspiciously as she tore the visitor stickers off of the large roll.

"He's not coming today, it's just Lou and I..." I motioned to Louis, who gave her his best cheeky grin.

"Hey babe!" he cheered. Jane raised an eyebrow in shock as I mentally slapped my forehead. Jane was about fifty-some years old, a grandmother, and here was Louis, calling her babe. Luckily, Jane smiled kindly.

"Hi there! Now, don't you tell me you're cheating on Harry, Charlotte. He's a very nice boy," Jane chided. I blushed and shook my head quickly.

"No ma'am. Louis' just a...friend." I said. Louis smirked at me.

"Is that right?" Jane asked in her thick southern accent. Lou grinned mischievously and shrugged.

"It's just a fling, nothing serious." he teased nonchalantly. Jane laughed and tapped his cheek, all motherly and such.

"Very funny, Louis. Ya'll don't be too long now, you hear? Visitor hours are almost over," Jane said, smiling brightly at Lou who gladly returned the gesture. I rolled my eyes and tugged his arm, stepping back a few steps.

"We won't. Thanks Jane," I called, dragging Lou behind me. As soon as we were far from the desk, Lou chuckled.

"She's quite nice. How come I've never noticed her before?" Louis asked, gently squeezing my hand. I shrugged as I looked at the numbers on the room doors.

"She's probably been hiding around. She gets really nervous around Harry...so why wouldn't she be nervous around you? Good-looking people intimidate her..." I said. Louis let out a hearty laugh, swinging our entwined hands like we were little kids.

"Mmm, yes. She's too turned on by my good looks." he teased, winking at me. I giggled as I opened the door to Taylor's room. When I spotted him, tears welled up in my eyes. He looked so weak and fragile. Once again, tubes were sticking out of his body and machines beeped all around. Those same machines kept his heart beating. I sighed as Louis and I walked to his bed, sitting on the chairs next to him.

"Hey there, T..." I whispered. No answer; only the sound of rhythmic beeping. I took his hand and squeezed it gently.

"I miss you, Bubby..." I smirked at myself. When Taylor and I were young, I couldn't pronounce brother correctly. So I always ran around calling him Bubby. The name sort of stuck.

"Do you think he can hear me?" I asked Louis, my eyes glued to Taylor's soft, peaceful face. Lou cleared his throat and then sighed.

"Oh, I don't know. I reckon he can...but he's just too weak to respond. He better hear us, though. I've sung to him the past two times I've been here. My voice is that of an angel..." Louis teased. I giggled and nudged him.

      "Oh stop it, Lou."

"Of course, it might be my devilishly good looks as well. I mean, I caught Jane off guard, why not Taylor? He's just stunned, that's all..."

"Louis, he's not gay." I yelled playfully.

"Maybe, maybe not. My voice and looks have been known to change sexualities. I am quite handsome," Louis joked, grinning at me. I rolled my eyes and kissed Taylor's hand.

"Come home soon, T." I murmured.

Sorry for the long wait, babes. i know I said I'd update more but this chapter was so difficult. Don't ask why. I updated during school as much as I could since I'm such a rebel. Also, my new story, which will most likely be called Flashing Lights, will be coming shortly! Stay tuned! Tell me what you think about this chapter; comments and votes are much appreciated!
