"How am I your twin brother? You aren't even my age." I couldn't help but blurt out. Solis looked at me and blinked. "You out of all people Brother, should know that appearances aren't always true. I mean, you are over 200 years old, trapped in your 10 year old body. When we were created, it was for a purpose. Our father brought us to our Mother for a reason. When he first saw who we once were: seelie children, the children of a couple who defied the seelie queen. Sebastian came to the queen, speaking of Clarissa's coldness, her depression reaching an all time low. The Queen gifted us to Sebastian as a show of peace and friendship. Sebastian saw our potential. He immediately brought us to Clarissa, who was delighted with our presence. With the help of warlocks, she managed to perform a ritual, using blood magic, to transform us into her own. Delighted, she immediately clothed us and began to pamper us. But Sebastian, he saw our potential. He still thirsted for revenge. On the institute, the Clave. Our father went to the Seelie Queen for advice. She delivered a prophecy, and he saw our destiny. You were to be trained, one day unleashed upon the world. I was to be your guide, and your protector. I could not be a mere child when you came to Earth, so our father persuaded our mother to let me live on Earth, grow up and have a real life. Mother eventually agreed. Heartbroken, she put me in the arms of our father, as he stepped into the portal. He took me to the Seelie Court, where I was raised. I managed to slowly age, training and preparing for the day you would step on Earth."
Father looked at me, assessing my reaction. "So, why did you never tell me?" My father rolled his eyes. "I knew that if you found out too soon, you would have gone on a senseless quest to find your sister, and then killed as a result. Your sister is very valuable at this age. You may be the Morgenstern in the prophecy, but your sister is extremely powerful. I think it's safe for you to remove the glamour rune, Solis." Our father explained patiently. I looked at Solis. She removed a rune by her neck, and slowly her appearance started to change. Long straight hair went down to her waist, the exact shade of mother's hair. She was still tall and slender, but her eyes... they were peculiar. Her eyes were kaleidoscopic, swirling colors, changing every second. I could see why she would need a glamour. "We were each gifted by immortal beings. You hold extreme power, Stellan, it is just waiting to be revealed. I was given the gift of prophecy and seeing beyond. Based on this gift, Father believes I inherited this from Ithuriel, the Angel whose blood flows in our mother's veins. I can see your future, though murky, it is beautiful."
Father nodded. I didn't feel special. Solis had the gift of prophecy yet she was not raised in Edom, and she claimed I held just as much, or probably more power than her. I was a Morgenstern, which made me powerful, I suppose. But I didn't feel like it. I didn't dare say that though. Father dusted himself off. "I have to go calm your mother. I can practically feel her anxiety seeping into this world already." Sebastian Morgenstern rolled his eyes. "When can I see her?" I asked him. My father turned to me. "When your power is revealed to yourself. I will send you off to a place where you will be protected and given proper respect. Your sister knows where I'm talking about, as she has lived there all her life. She will protect you until you are powerful enough, and guide you to your destiny. Listen to her advice, and try not to die." Father clapped him a hand on my shoulder, then exited via portal. My heart slightly ached. I was used to Father's coldness. Mother always told me Father wasn't capable of love. Affection, fondness, but never love.
I would make him proud. I would achieve my destiny. When I succeeded he would have no choice but to love me. I was his son, shouldn't that be enough? You are acting weak. I tiredly thought. Earth was making me soft, giving me these thoughts of love and bitterness. Father was right. Earth was a horrible place. I will train. I will grow strong, to my full potential.
Jace Herondale may be a good man, but good men don't always win. I will finish what my father started. I turned toward my sister, grabbing her hand. "Take me away." She nodded. My end will justify the means to accomplish that precious destiny of mine.
