"Morning, Ash! Still breathing?" I questioned while barging into my parents' room, causing the man to stir and squint against the sunlight shining in through the curtains.
"Last I checked." He hissed when attempting to sit up, moving cautiously. He cleared his throat and rubbed at his shoulder. "Though, I can't say I'm feeling much better."
"Well, I picked up some fresh bandages and some clothes from the store." I raised the bag I held in my hand and tossed it onto the bed as I came closer. "Nothing particularly fancy, but they'll make do." I sit down beside him and pull the gauze out of the bag. Catching the hint, he loosens the belt of the robe and lets the fabric cascade down his shoulders to reveal the bloodied bandages I put on him last night. I get to work changing them, mindful not to wrap them too tight. Once I'm done, I slide off the bed. "You can get changed. I'm gonna make breakfast. Any requests?"
"Ah, right... I'm not sure. I don't really consume food much, so whatever you make is fine."
"Angels don't eat?" Interesting. I knew Sebastian didn't, but it never occurred to me that angels wouldn't either.
"Not really. It's not necessary."
"Well, it is now. Keep that in mind. Don't want to accidentally starve to death."
"You know I'm not incompetent, right?"
"I'm thinking oatmeal and fruit for breakfast," I say dismissively to spite him, cracking a smile while I made my way out. I could sense him shaking his head behind me. While making breakfast, I get a call from Mom. Though a little reluctant, I answer.
"The plants are alive, the house is fine, and yes, I'm still breathing," I answer off the bat without bothering with hellos. She sounds unbothered by the hint of curtness in my voice when she responds.
"That's great, Honey. Thank you for the progress report," she jokes back. I could sense the smile in her tone. "Glad to hear things are going well." My mind flashed to all that happened last night, the past couple of days really.
"Yeah."
"Anyway, I was calling because I've got some great news. We're ahead of schedule over here, so we should be back home in two or three months! Isn't that great!?" My eyes widened, and nearly I had dropped my phone.
"... Yeah?" I would have been more excited. I should have been, but at the moment I have a fucking man in my parent's bedroom, torn up and bloody because I changed him from an angel into a human. What the hell am I supposed to do with him when they get here?! I can't exactly take him back to the Black Butler universe after all that happened. Shit. I should have thought this through better.
"We know you've been getting tired of sitting at home alone all the time, so we promise after this trip to spend more time with you." False promises. They've made them before. I don't believe it for a second. My hopes were dashed too many times to rise at the mere possibility that my parents might actually care enough to spend a little more time with me. They will always have a long work trip to go to. They're horrible at sitting idle.
"That'd be great." Pinching the bridge of my nose, I decided I've finally had enough of their bullshit. "But, I want you guys to know that I'm thinking of moving out." Suddenly, all went silent on the other end.
