"Jamie get up."
I heard Laila's voice as she shook me. I don't know when I fell asleep or what time it was now, but the annoyed look on her face rushed the sleep right out of me.
"Come on, we're leaving." She said as she pointed her glock at me and pulled me up.
I looked around and realized Leila was gone along with any trace that anyone was here.
Laila led me to my truck and cuffed both my wrists to the handle on the roof of the car.
I was really getting tired of being in handcuffs all the time. I know I was being a hypocrite about it but I felt like a pussy being tied down.
I heard Leila whimper in the back seat then wag her tail as soon as I turned to look at her. This time she didn't have a leash on but she still had her muzzle.
"Hey girl, you behaving?"
Leila made a pathetic barking noise then sat down as soon as Laila climbed into the truck. I didn't even bother asking where we were heading since she didn't seem so talkative lately. She just drove off.
Looking at the clock I saw it was two in the morning and that bad feeling I had earlier got worst. It was confirmed the moment I saw her eyes flicking back and forth to each mirror of the truck.
"We're being followed aren't we?"
Laila glanced at me then back at the road and bit her bottom lip.
Damn, we are being followed.
"How long have they been following you?"
Laila stayed quiet but I could tell she was getting angry.
"For crying out loud Laila answer me!"
"I lost them before I reached the warehouse, but they wandered around and called for back up. I need to loose them again but you won't shut up long enough for me to think up a plan! Why can't you be like a normal hostage and just shut up?!" She growled in frustration, picked up speed and drove near a harbor I'm guessing to get to a more busy street.
"I'm trying to help you!"
She glared daggers at me. "Lair! That's exactly what you said to me that night nine years ago! I trusted you! You promised you'd protect me and you lied! That's all you know how to do! Lie your way through and when my guard is down you strike!"
"Laila I swear that's not-" Before I could say another word I saw a car coming from a side street towards the driver's door.
The attacker slammed into my truck and the impacted made my car flip over a few times.
Everything happened so fast, we were bouncing up and down and side to side until my truck made an impact into the water.
My vision blurred for a second until I heard Leila whimpering in the back seat. The truck was sinking quickly into the water.
I turned to see how Laila was doing, and my heart froze over at the sight of the blood coming from her head. She was out cold but her seat belt kept her upright on her seat.
I tried grabbing her but these damn cuffs wouldn't let me. The handle wiggled a bit, so focused my attention on my cuffs and pulled on the handle with all my strength until I heard the satisfying snap of the plastic.
I had to work quickly before we all became fish food.
Quickly I took off Leila's muzzle and had her get out through the back window with Laila's bag. Focusing back to Laila I searched her pockets for the keys to the cuffs and found nothing. I tried feeling for it on the floor and nothing.
