Walking down this hall brought me so many memories. With a bulky folder clutched securely close to my body and my Starbucks latte in my left hand, I had a good feeling today.
I stopped in front of the golden elevators and pressed the up bottom with my other hand that held my steaming hot tomato basil panini sandwich. The delicious aroma was making my mouth water and my stomach grumble in agreement.
Lunchtime and I'm starving!
The dinging if the elevator reaching my floor brought my attention back to business. I was happy to see I would be alone in this ride. I nearly did the moonwalk into the elevator. I was going to be here for a while until I reached the top floor.
Sipping on my hot latte I watched the light mark the first and second number, at the third it stopped. In a matter of seconds the elevator was began to fill with other employees. I rolled my eyes, I hate being in crowded elevators. I don't care what floor they're getting off on, I'm not moving from my sweet spot.
The doors opened to every floor, and I swear I wanted to groan in frustration. Why do bosses always have their offices on the top floor? It makes my work harder. They should build me a personal elevator, I would love that!
My lips spread into a grateful smile as I drank in the aroma of my sandwich that completely overtook the confined space I was in. Maybe I can sneak in a few bites before my meeting? I thought hopefully as a tighten my grip on the brown paper bag that contained my new best friend. A little nibble won't hurt anybody.
The elevator finally stopped on the top floor, snapping me out if my food high. Honestly I wanted to cry and hug my bestie, not caring that security would see me as a weirdo hugging a brown paper bag.
I needed to be fed!
"Welcome back Ms. Blackwood how was your last assignment?" My boss' PA asked as I made my way to her desk.
Horrible no wifi! I wanted to blurt out my complaints.
"It was pretty good, you know, the usual." I replied with my best fake smile, I even showed her some teeth for extra effect. "Can I go in, I'm running a little late, and have another meeting to attend after this."
With my sandwich. I thought with a secret smile.
She must of thought that smile was for her because she smiled back and lifted a 'give me a second' finger, picked up her phone and called my boss. After a few nods and yes sir's she hung up and smiled at me.
"Mr. Blackwood is waiting for you ma'am, would you like an escort?" She asked with a huge smile.
I shook my head. "No thank you Linda, I can take it from here." I said then headed to the office.
Sighing I pushed the doors opened and was greeted with the undeniable smell of meat and vegetables. The smell made my stomach slam the brakes on my starvation and I had to fight the bile that threatened to come out my mouth.
"Leslie my dear! How are you?" Uncle Cam greeted with a huge smile on his face. He stood up from his desk and came towards me, wrapping me in a bear hug. "How I missed you!" He whispered then kissed my head.
