**********
It's been six days, six long days since we left town and she hasn't said a word to me. Granted I was in no position to have her talk to me. I did take her from her home, but still, say something. How can someone stay so long without saying a word?
I glanced at Laila from my peripheral vision.
We were still on the road, occasionally we'd stop to either eat, use the restrooms or stretch our legs but then she'd go back to just staring out the window in a daze and playing with her hair.
That was all she did for the past six days and frankly it was driving me nuts. If I had taken a normal route we'd reach the destination quicker, but I needed to throw off any possible trails.
I had her handcuffed to the door, but that didn't seem to bother her. The only time she reacted was whenever I got too close to her. She would try to swat me away like I was some sort of bug. I couldn't even go near the glove compartment to get the map.
Exhaling a long breath I turned back to the road, we were almost at the place I had planned to keep her, until Tyler decides to poke his head around to look for her.
I understand he wants revenge for what happened to his family back then, but Leslie is my twin sister and I won't allow him to hurt her.
I don't even care what Cam said either; she's alive and I will find her at any cost.
If Tyler had killed her he would have made a show about it just to get us riled up. He was using her as bait to lure us into a trap.
Laila the dog made a whining noise in the back of my pick up. She was giving me a warning and I know I shouldn't push her too far before she uses my truck as a pit stop. Twelve miles before we reach our destination, she won't last that long.
I turned to Laila the human to tell her we were going to make a stop but she had fallen to sleep.
Well at least one of us is able too. I haven't had a decent nights sleep since I found out my sister was kidnaped.
Pulling over I got out and signaled my dog to do her business. She jumped out quickly and ran into one of the bushes in this long highway.
I couldn't help the smile that came to my lips. Laila was definitely a reliable dog, and we've come so far together since she was a pup. She was my partner and a pretty damn good one too. I trust her with my life.
I'm definitely proud of her, especially when she wouldn't work with anyone else but me.
Thanks to that she was sent with me when I left. That was loyalty.
If it weren't for her I would have never been able to find Laila the human. My partner along with the help of dozen of other people I worked with; of whom I had to call in favors to. I owed them for the strings they pulled for me.
If it weren't for them I'd still be twiddling my thumbs at home, waiting for my good uncle to get his ass moving on finding my sister.
As soon as mom called me a month after Leslie's disappearance I decided to come back. I would had completed my two year tour after three days if mom hadn't called. I was given a pardon to leave early even though Cam told me not to. According to him it would put his business at risk.
To hell with all that, if it weren't for disobeying him I'd never would had gotten this far in the first place!
I just hoped my sister was ok.
