I woke up sore as hell.
Everything hurts, I tried sitting up and after a few failed attempts, I just gave up. Looking around, I saw that I was by myself.
Where was Les?! Where did they take her?!
Not caring how painful it was, I pushed myself up to sit, but regretted it the moment a wave of dizziness came over me.
It was my fault for getting up too quickly.
Luckily it passed right before the doorknob turned and Laila came in with her arms full. I felt an instant wave of excitement the moment I saw that it was her.
She was trying to balance a huge bowl, a gallon of water, a bag of ice, and a small bowl with what looked like some sort of yellow liquid.
"Ah finally!" She breathed as she began to set the stuff on the table.
She hadn't even looked my way before leaving the room and coming back with a towel over her shoulder and a bag of chips.
I couldn't help the smile that formed on my face as I watched her curiously. What in the world is she doing? I mean I'm ecstatic to see her; but why is she here?
I was just about to ask her when she looked up doe-eyed in shock.
"Jamie?" Her voice cracked and she rested her hand on the table for support. "Please tell me I'm not seeing things now."
I chuckled at the aggravated tone in her voice. "Depends what you are seeing." My voice was scratchy since I had just woken up.
"Oh snap, he's talking now. Oh boy, I'm losing it! I thought mom was lying when she said lack of sleep turns you crazy!"
Ok, that's a little weird. "Am I missing something?"
Laila looked up after giving herself a pep talk about hallucinations. Then slowly walked towards me until we were at arm's reach.
"Are you alright? What are you feeling?" She questioned in awe.
"Sore?" I questioned confused.
What was going on? Why is she treated me like some experiment?
"Nothing else?"
I took a second to run a check on myself and shrugged. "Hungry?"
Laila's face lit up like fire works and she threw herself on me. I grunted as my sore back impacted the wall behind me. But she looked so happy I couldn't push her off.
"You're ok! Oh thank God you're healed! God never fails me!!"
"Healed?" I questioned with a raised brow.
"You had a bad infection and we tried everything but it wouldn't go away. Then Ty's team made a new antibiotic, he suggested giving you the old one at the same time, and now your up! It worked!"
"How long was I out for?"
Laila hugged me tighter and buried her face to my chest. "A week." She muffled then looked up and grabbed my face.
A week? I was unconscious for a week! What the hell?!
"But you're ok now. The treatment worked and your awake and hungry! That's a good sign!"
"Laila what happened?" I asked as she stared for a few seconds then cleared her throat and got off of me.
"Your temperature is still a little high but we could bring that down, and I have food so you can eat." She replied while she grabbed the stuff she left on the table and brought them inside the cage.
