I felt like hours had passed before Tyler came back. He slowly made his way to his desk like a zombie. Looking completely deflated as he slumped on his chair.
"Tyler?" Leslie squeaked, finally breaking the silence we had in the room for the past fifteen minutes since he came back.
Tyler slowly looked up and waited for my sister to continue.
"I'm sorry, but I really have to pee." She added quietly as if she were ashamed of the fact.
He blinked a few times at her as if his brain took its time to process it before getting up. Without another word he opened the cage door and led Leslie to the bathroom.
I don't know if he even noticed, but he left the cage door wide open. Did he want me to escape? Or was he so out of it he hadn't realized it yet?
I should take this chance to escape, but my body wouldn't move. Even though it was a golden opportunity, I didn't want to leave. If I left, I know for certain I will never see Laila again. Tyler was my only tie to her now.
I mulled over my options for so long, I didn't realize I was staring at the same poster until Leslie and Tyler came back.
"It's about time you two should be heading out as well."
What? I looked at him in to see if he was joking. This dude finally lost it.
"Tyler, what are you talking about?"
"A lot is about to happen and having you two here is going to be a distraction. There's a car in the lot with the keys in the ignition."
"Your letting us go?" I asked suspiciously.
He turned to his computer and began typing; after a few seconds he nodded. "Yes, you're free to go."
"What about your revenge?"
"That's my business."
"Why go thru all that trouble to just let us go? I could understand Leslie, but me? What gain do you get by letting me go?"
"Leslie's safety." Tyler answered plainly. "Who better to keep her safe then her own twin brother?"
"What are you planning?" Leslie asked as she stood near Tyler and grabbed his arm. "Please don't do anything stupid. I just want you safe."
Tyler finally cracked a smile as he reached his hands and placed them on her belly. "You shouldn't be worried about me. Our son is going to need you. You're going to have to fight for him."
"We could fight for him." She suggested hopefully but Tyler shook his head.
"If Laila and jackass over there can't be together what makes you think we can? Neither of us would live normal lives together. I want my son to live his life not having to look over his shoulder. I want that for you too."
"Tyler." Leslie grabbed his hands and held them. "I don't see why we can't be together. You could keep doing that hacking thing and..."
Tyler's laughter cut her words short as he stood up and leaned his head on hers. "Keep running?"
"I love you. Even though you're the biggest asshole I've ever met, I still love you Tyler."
He laughed and I couldn't help but chuckle. She was right, he is an asshole.
"I wasn't trying to be funny!" Leslie snapped at us. "My son needs his father!"
The look on Tyler's face made me cringe. He looked utterly torn and for a second I thought it was him just playing another one of his twisted mind games.
