Chapter one

 “Why hello gorgeous!” He said, spinning her around as she giggled, her strawberry blonde hair flying out after her.

“Stop it! Im getting dizzy!” She squealed as he finally placed her back on the ground.

“But I haven’t seen you in AGES! You have gotten so big!” He exclaimed as my little sister, Nell grinned widely, showing the large holes where her teeth should be.

“Looks like the tooth fairy has visited!” He said, ruffling her hair as she hugged him quickly before running inside.

“Daddy, I want to show NiNi my tiara!” We heard he squeal as she closed the door behind her. Niall stretched back up to his normal height and looked my way.

I smiled as Niall finally acknowledged my presence. Pulling me into a hug, one of the best hugs in the world.

“Hello to you too beautiful.” He mumbled in my ear as I slowly pulled away.

“How wasAmerica? Lots of fun?” I asked. Niall had just returned from a month away inAmericawith seven of our best mates; Louis, Sky, Lucy, Liam, Zayn, Ella and Harry.

“It would have been better if you were there.” He said kissing my knuckles as he led me down to our usual spot, the hill over-looking the pond that was at the bottom of the garden.

My Mum had loved gardening. She loved to let plants grow wherever they pleased, but it wasn’t an unruly mess. It always ended up being a beautiful jungle of various colours and textures. The pond that she had built was the last project that she did before dying the year before last.

“I couldn’t. Imagine what would happen to Nell if she only had Dad caring for her! Dad has no people skills!” I giggled, remembering how Mum used to be able to strike a conversation with anyone. She could make them feel happy and at ease. I wish I had inherited these traits but here I was, awkward as ever. She could connect with anyone. If she just hadn’t connected with that other car we wouldn’t have had a problem.

I shook off these morbid thoughts and smiled at my best friend.

“Well, what did you get me?” I asked as Niall grinned broadly, reaching into a bag he had brought along and pulled out a large box. I reached for it before we swatted my hands away, handing me a smaller package instead. I ripped it open, finding a small silver locket. It was plain and simple yet still elegant and beautiful.

“It’s perfect.” I breathed as I leant forward hugging him tightly. “Thank you.”

Nell chose that moment to come running back out of the house, sporting a pair of my heels, an old wedding dress, a tiara and a wand made of tin foil. The straps fell of her shoulders as she moved towards us, flicking her wand ad she tottered around.

“I got you a present when I visitedDisneyLandlittle Nell!” Niall said, pulling her onto his lap as she giggled excitedly. He handed her the box and her innocent blue eyes shone as she pulled on the pink ribbon. She pulled off the lid and found a blue dress with a small pair of see through heels. She squealed as she pulled her presents close.

“HELP ME PUT IT ON!” She wailed as Niall looked at her with amusement. I nodded and grabbed her hand, leading her into the house. I helped her out of her original ensemble, minus the tiara, and helped get the blue dress on her, before helping her stubby, little 5 year old feet into the ‘slippers’. She sprinted back outside immediately.
